Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media, Death in Paradise star Ralf Little teased that the animosity between his character Neville and commissioner Selwyn Patterson (played by Don Warrington) could get worse as he explained series 11 will see Neville left “very uncomfortable”. Could Neville’s exit from the show be imminent after three years as the face of the BBC series?

Neville has been Saint-Marie’s main detective since season nine, but speculation about his exit has been rife with fans.

Speaking about the commissioner and his relationship with Neville, Ralf told Express.co.uk and other media that Patterson “really enjoys making Neville uncomfortable”.

He continued: “It’s always nice to put him out of his comfort zone – the commissioner in particular… really enjoys making Neville as uncomfortable and out of his comfort zone as possible.

“When Florence does that, it’s like to help him out. Whereas the commissioner has just got a cruel streak.”

Could the clash between the two lead Neville to leave the island for good?

Fans will remember Neville almost left in series nine because of the commissioner.

Neville had been given the all-clear to make his exit and was gearing up to leave Saint Marie when he had a change of heart.

He’d initially told Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert): “I’m allowed to fly back to England.”

He added: “Finally, I’m going to get to go back home.”

However, he ended up turning up at Catherine Bordley’s (Elizabeth Bourgine) bar.

“Why are you not on an aeroplane?” asked Selwyn.

“I’m fed up with living life the way I have to, rather than the way I want to,” he explained.

Florence asked happily: “So you’re staying?” While the commissioner commented: “Oh please God, no.”

He reluctantly allowed Neville to remain in the job, though.

Their rocky relationship has continued, however, and it seems Neville may finally have had enough.

Neville replaced DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) in the series.

Jack’s debut on the show was in series six, and he had left by series nine.

Other detectives on the series have had similar stints on the show, so it seems only a matter of time before Neville is replaced.

Could the commissioner’s strained relationship with him finally see Neville make an exit in series 11?

Death In Paradise season 11 continues Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
