DNA Family Secrets viewers break down in tears as woman discovers her dad murdered her mum – with chilling twist

DNA Family Secrets viewers were left reaching for the tissues after a woman discovered her dad murdered her mum in cold blood.

On Wednesday evening's instalment of the BBC show, Stacey Dooley helped another batch of people find answers to life-changing questions through the power of a DNA test.

The show uses DNA to reveal missing relatives and solve other family mysteries – and last night's episode revealed some chilling truths.

Fi had always known she was adopted, however, what she didn't know was that her father murdered her birth mother.

During the episode, Fi wanted to find out if it was possible to inherit a "murder gene" – terrified that she might have the same callous traits as her dad.

Those watching at home were left distressed after seeing Fi question her own identity, with many taking to Twitter to air their thoughts.

Alongside an array of sad-faced emojis, one person penned: "Looking at that picture of Fi's mum as a young girl knowing she grew up to be murdered is heartbreaking."

Echoing their comments, someone else said: "In tears here for Fi and her mum. I hope she finds peace of mind – she really deserves it."

While a third added: "Why did I decide to watch The Repair Shop and then DNA Family Secrets?"

Elsewhere on the show, Mel Macauley tried to find out about her sperm donor father.

Mel discovered at the age of 17 that she was donor-conceived and, after years of wondering about the man who was her biological father, the 46-year-old was left looking for answers.

She wanted Stacey to help her to discover anything that she could about him – and about any half-siblings she may have.

The outcome for Mel was even better than she had hoped for.

She learnt that her father was a Mancunian businessman named Gerald and that she has a half brother called Philip.
