Eamonn Holmes, 61, and his wife, Ruth Langsford, 61, have been hosting the show for five days a week over the academic summer holidays. For a month and a half, those watching This Morning at home have been enjoying seeing the pair back on their screens after they were replaced on Fridays by Alison Hammond, 46, and Dermot O’Leary, 48, earlier this year. With the ITV presenters reaching the conclusion of their comeback on Friday’s edition of the programme, their fans took to social media to share their desire to have the couple back on the sofa permanently.
The pair announced earlier this week Friday would be their last day for a while and they again reiterated this sentiment at the beginning of the show.
However, when the latest instalment of the programme came to an end, they gave a heartfelt farewell to those who had tuned in to watch them.
After a series of clips played out of their best bits of the summer, Eamonn said: “Thank you, everybody, thank you, crew.”
“Seven weeks, five days a week and it’s just flown by like that,” he continued, believing his interview with William Shatner was his highlight of the run.
“I’ve loved it all,” Ruth added, telling viewers: “Thank you very much for your company this summer and thank you for your very lovely comments.”
Taking to Twitter to demand a return, one wrote: “I wish @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL were on #ThisMorning every day, they are the best. Make me smile, laugh and feel good every time.”
Another posted: “@EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL the best morning host ever. Will miss your honest and truthful comments and all the giggles. They should keep you on all year! #thismorning.”
Whilst a third remarked: “@EamonnHolmes @RuthieeL when working alone from home most days…love you both keeping me company!
“Best presenters going to miss you both on #ThisMorning countdown until your next spell on it,” they continued.
Going to miss them

A fourth viewer stated: “Going to miss them. My faves #ThisMorning @EamonnHolmes @RuthieeL #ThisMorning.”
“@ITV you really need to give @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL their own talk show. They are the most loved presenters on TV, we need more of them,” a fifth declared.
“They brighten up everyone’s lives. @thismorning bring them back on Fridays, they are deeply missed #thismorning #eamonnholmes,” they added.
It has not been announced when the pair will be back on-screen but it is likely they will be filling in for their co-stars over the October academic holidays.
Phillip Schofield, 59, and Holly Willoughby, 40, will be back to hosting the show in early September but some more guest presenters will be standing in next week.
Joining Rochelle Humes, 32, on Monday and Friday will be regular presenter Alison and the former pop star will be joined by Vernon Kay, 47, for the rest of the week.
It is the first time the former Family Fortunes host will be taking on the reins of the show before Phillip and Holly return on Monday, September 6, 2021.
Speaking of joining the team, Vernon said: “This Morning is the daytime go-to show, so to be asked to guest host on a show I’ve watched since its inception is a huge tick for me.”
“I’m really looking forward to working with Rochelle and sitting on that famous sofa,” Vernon explained.
Editor of the show, Martin Frizell, added: “This week will provide a great mix of talent for our viewers.
“Vernon is familiar with being a guest on our sofa but I’m sure he’ll be just as great hosting the show live for two and a half hours too.”
It was always the plan Eamonn and Ruth would be hosting for seven weeks, therefore, their absence next week won’t be out of the ordinary.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
