Emmerdale fans heartbroken as Billy Fletcher is racially attacked on ITV soap

Emmerdale fans were left heartbroken for Billy Fletcher on Thursday's episode of the ITV soap after he was racially attacked.

During the latest episode, Billy's wife Dawn Taylor encouraged him to go out for drinks in town with his father-in-law Will Taylor.

Later on, Dawn received a message that her husband was injured in hospital as she frantically rushed to see him, where a broken Billy revealed that he had been racially attacked.

Will and Dawn were certain that justice will prevail, especially as the police had the attacker, but Billy wasn't so sure.

At the same time, lawyer Ethan Anderson headed to the police station where he met Jordan, who had been arrested on suspicion of assault.

And it wasn't long until Ethan was left startled to see the CCTV image of Jordan’s victim, which was in fact Billy, as he insisted that although he knows him, there is no conflict of interest.

Later in the episode, Ethan suggested to Jordan, who was charged with racially aggravated assault, that he may prefer to seek alternative representation but the attacker was adamant he wanted him as his legal counsel.

After being put in an awkward position, Ethan decided to take on Jordan’s case while Billy was notified that his attacker had been charged, remaining convinced he would get away with it.

As a broken Billy sat outside Woodbine cottage, a guilty-looking Ethan arrived home at the exact same time as he saw his neighbour covered in bruises following the attack.

Will Ethan change his mind and how will Billy react when he learns that Ethan is defending his attacker?

Soap watchers were left heartbroken for Billy as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person said: "Poor Billy #Emmerdale."

A different account put: "Billy #Emmerdale" followed by heartbroken emojis.
