Simon Rimmer and his Sunday Brunch co-host Tim Lovejoy front the Channel 4 programme. Celebrity guests Tim Kay, Lou Sanders and Marian Keyes, seemed to be having so much fun on the show that the hosts had to tell them to behave.

Sunday Brunch provides fans with a slice of entertainment and good food, with the recent episode following suit.

During one of the show’s dining segments, the guests started to get more and more out of control.

It came to an awkward close when show guest Lou pointed out the plates.

She said: “Can I just say these plates are from John Lewis, and they are absolutely lovely.”

Thinking it was a harmless comment, the studio erupted into laughter, with Simon asking Tim: “Do you think our guests have actually forgotten we are on telly?”

Tim asked Lou: “Are you looking for a sponsorship deal?”

While munching down on brunch during the show, she added: “Oh, are we not allowed to say where they are from?”

Awkwardly, with folded arms, Tim said: “I don’t really know.”

Tim joked about other furniture in the studio when Simon quickly said, “other crockery suppliers are available” and moved on with the meal he was preparing.

The pair should have spotted the telltale signs that the three guests were getting over-familiar when an unusual sandwich provoked an onslaught of culinary feedback.

The guests were served with an apple and Mars bar sandwich, which Marian had suggested.

When asked about the unusual choice, she said: “It’s served at presbyterian funerals in Northern Ireland. I heard about it, and I actually thought they had to be making it up.”

Although they didn’t have the correct bread to serve it on, they used brioche instead of the usual Veda bread.

Taking a bite of the sandwich, host Tim asked: “Do we have to eat everything we are given?”

Simon replied simply with, “It’s polite to Tim.”

Having never had it before, Marian commented that there was “too much bread” and Lou chimed in with: “That’s not the only problem with it.”

Overall, the sandwich was not a hit with the guests or viewers at home.

@Rabbiedo tweeted: “Mars bar and apple sandwich at a funeral? Absolute baloney! #SundayBrunch.”

@gazbap added: “What complete nonsense about that sandwich, someone obviously pulling her leg in the pub last night #sundaybrunch.”

“I like a Mars bar, and I like an apple – but I wouldn’t have it in a f*****g sandwich, would I?! #SundayBrunch,” @MissLionHeart commented.

Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 9:30 am on Channel 4.
