HBO’s action-packed drama House of the Dragon returned with the aftermath of King Viserys Targaryen’s (played by Paddy Considine) death. As well as the clash over the new heir, the episode also revealed Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) had a coercive foot fetish.
Larys was first introduced in episode six as the son of the Hand of the King, Lord Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes).
He had made his way into Queen Alicent Hightower’s (Emma Cooke) inner circle, becoming her eyes and ears around Westeros.
The recent episode revealed the two had a unique relationship where he would undertake missions and provide inside information in exchange for a look at her feet.
This was seen when Larys informed the Queen that there was a ring of spies inside the Red Keep
However that information came at a price, which they had already seemingly agreed upon, so when he stopped talking, Alicent took her feet out of her shoes and placed it on the table.
While watching her feet, Larys revealed that Alicent’s father Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifan) was aware of them.
He had more information but stopped again which prompted Alicent to remove her stockings and place her bare feet on the edge of the table.
Larys then explained that her servant was a spy and offered to kill the spymaster if she wanted him to.
Alicent then shifted and turned away from him to put her feet up on the chair in his full view.
With a good look at her feet, Larys then sneakily put his hand in his trousers and masturbated.
While viewers took to social media with shock, director Clare Kilner bluntly stated: “Looking at her feet and then having a w***, basically.”
She said executive producer and writer Sara Hess came up with the idea, explaining: “Her mind is incredible. I mean, she really wrote us a wonderful episode, I have to say.
“But, yeah, that was an interesting scene actually… Funnily enough, you get the intimacy coordinators [for] all the nudity, but they don’t think about it for this.”
Clare told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s so intrusive and invasive, it’s a really dirty scene.”
Later in the episode, viewers got the see the result of Larys’ scheming work when Ser Erryk Cargyl (Elliot Tittensor) was walking with Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).
As he escorted her out of the Red Keep, she was interrupted by the sight of the servant who was hung, likely as punishment for spying.
Larys first aligned his loyalties to the Queen when he told her Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) had been sent a morning after tea, after a fling with her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith).
He had also arranged for his father and brother Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr), a knight of House Strong, to be killed.
As a result, during the following episode, viewers learned Larys was named Lord of Harrenhal.
With the time jump, this means Larys has served the Queen for 16 years, but it’s yet to be seen what he truly wants for his loyalty.
