I Know What You Did Last Summer was originally adapted in the 1997 smash hit slasher film. Now, Amazon Prime is reintroducing viewers to the story, this time told as a series across multiple episodes. For original fans and newcomers to the story alike, Express.co.uk has all the details on the new series.
How many episodes are in I Know What You Did Last Summer?
When I Know What You Did hit cinemas in the summer of 1997, it became the film everyone was talking about.
Amazon Prime is now hoping to capture the same reaction with its new adaptation, which is primed for release in the midst of the Halloween season – October 15.
Once again inspired by the original 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, this new version will be telling a similar slasher tale.
The story will be told over eight episodes, with the first four all dropping at once on the streaming platform.
The following four episodes will be released weekly on Fridays until November 12.
Each episode will be one hour in length, making this the most expansive adaptation of the story ever conceived.
Amazon Prime has brought onboard James Wan as Executive Producer, the horror director behind hits such as The Conjuring franchise, Aquaman, and his latest work Malignant.
Snowfall’s Logan Kibens, Ozark’s Benjamin Semanoff, and Channel Zero’s Craig William Macneill are all taking on directorial duties.
Who is in the cast of I Know What You Did Last Summer?
The details of the characters are being kept under wraps, but the full main cast has been revealed for the series.
The cast includes Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Bill Heck, and Fiona Rene.
Rounding out the main cast is Cassie Beck, Brooke Bloom, Chrissie Fit, Danielle Delaunay, Spencer Sutherland, and Madison Iseman.
Exactly who each star is playing and what will happen to them in the show remains to be seen, yet judging by the source material it will be a bloody affair for most.
What is I Know What You Did Last Summer About?
For those uninitiated into the world of I Know What You Did Last Summer, the story follows a group of teenagers.
They all carry with them secrets that will be shared among the group, whether they like it or not.
In the middle of it all is a mysterious killer that emerges one year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.
The show will go into greater detail on the background of each character when compared to the 1997 film.
Is I Know What You Did Last Summer connected to the original film?
Fans hoping for any meaningful connection between the new show and the film will be disappointed, as the two do not share the same universe.
In an interview with Radio Times, series showrunner Sara Goodman explained that while the works are not directly connected, there are still plenty of easter eggs for fans to enjoy.
Goodman teased: “The overlap is really the same as in the book, which is something bad happens and they do the wrong thing and someone knows.
“I wanted to give a shoutout, I wanted to have Easter Eggs, but I didn’t want to make that film into just a television show.
“I wanted to make a new television show that reflected the times that we’re living in and the struggles and the reality of people becoming adults in this time, which was very different in the late ’90s.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer will premiere on October 15 exclusive Amazon Prime.
