Riverdale season six will be coming to The CW in November 2021, with the second half of the fifth instalment believed to be arriving in August. Fans believed season five would be the last, so they were thrilled to hear about another outing. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about how many episodes are in season six.
How many episodes are in Riverdale season 6?
Riverdale is a long-running teen drama based on the Archie comics and it made its debut on The CW back in 2017.
In January 2020, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which was split into two halves – the first airing in January 2021.
Episode 11 of the current season is due to air on August 11, 2021, and in the meantime fans were treated to a season six update.
The sixth instalment will make its debut on November 16, 2021, with five episodes airing this year.
Like season five, the sixth season will see more episodes air at a later date.
At this moment in time, there is some uncertainty over whether the sixth season will include 19 episodes, as has been the norm since season three.
CW Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Pedowitz told Radio Times: “We will have completed production [on season five] at the end of June, beginning of early July.
“So there will be enough of a hiatus so they will come back at some time in early September, fully rested.”
He did say it would not be possible to record a full season in time for a 2021 air date, which is why only half will be released this year.
Eventually it is hoped the series can return to its normal schedule, but this is unlikely to happen until the Autumn of 2022.
The season six episodes will air in the US on Tuesday evenings, one day earlier than their usual Wednesday slot.
An unofficial Riverdale Twitter account tweeted: “#Riverdale Season 6 will premiere Tuesday, November 16 at 9/8c on The CW.”
One fan responded: “I thought season 5 was the end. I’m not complaining I’m actually really excited!!!!”
At this moment in time, there is no word on when the sixth season will arrive on Netflix for those watching in the UK.
Production on season five wrapped on June 1, 2021, and fans are eagerly awaiting its return following the current hiatus.
Another fan confirmed the latest update, saying: “There will be five special episodes of #Riverdale Season 6 premiering Tuesday, November 16 2021.”
Season six is scheduled to take a break from December 14, 2021, with the rest of the season airing sometime in 2022.
Fans are determined to see Betty Cooper (played by Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) get together by the sixth season.
One said on Twitter: “It frightens me how quickly I’d return to being baited for another season for those two. Ship Barchie, it’s very rewarding.”
Another added: “Barchie is endgame. Endgame is barchie.”

Hopefully, more information about the season six episode schedule will come to light in the coming months.
More should be revealed following the season five finale, which should air on October 6, 2021.
With this in mind, fans will only have to wait just over a month for the series to resume with season six.
Another fan said on Twitter: “Hope season 6 of Riverdale is the last and ending with barchie.”
Riverdale airs on The CW in the US and Netflix in the UK.
