HBO’s comedy series is returning to the network for its fifth and final season. After a cliffhanger ending, eager fans have been anxiously waiting to find out the fate of the beloved Issa Dee (played by Issa Rae). Thankfully her co-star Yvonne Orji who plays Molly Carter has dropped a major hint.

The multi-award-winning Insecure gained tons of fans across the world after its trailblazing premiere in 2019.

The comedy followed the complicated life of Issa, as she tried to juggle a failing relationship, a one-sided friendship and an unsatisfying job.

Throughout the series, Molly was Issa’s high flying attorney best friend – however, their relationship came to a devastating end after a buildup of issues.

Season four saw the two come to blows which left fans questioning if Molly and Issa could repair their friendship in the upcoming instalment.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly actress Yvonne confessed viewers could be ‘upset’ with the new storyline.

“With every episode of every season, our fans will be upset at something and then they will be happy at other things, and they will be stewing over other things,” she explained.

When she was asked to sum up the final season, Yvonne stated it would be: “Unearthing, shedding, fulfilling, and growing.”

“Unearthing a lot of different things, emotions, feelings – unearthing desires, wants. There’s a lot of things going on,” the actress concluded.

Molly’s friendship with Issa wasn’t the only thing that came to an end, her boyfriend Andrew (Alexander Hodge) officially called it quits.

This was another devastating blow for her because she had struggled with her love life and thought this was the one.

As the series progressed it was revealed Molly was her own enemy and would consistently self-sabotage especially when it came to romance.

But it was her ambition, wit and intelligence which made her a fan-favourite.

As season four ended with Molly and Issa finally sitting down to talk things out, fans could potentially see the two reconcile.

However, according to showrunner Prentice Penny, their friendship won’t be the same, in her conversation with Entertainment Weekly he disclosed: “We don’t want them to go back to where they were.”

“They’re going to be forever changed by this, forever humbled by this, and hopefully, forever close by this,” Prentice concluded.

While Molly grieved the loss of two relationships, Issa’s life took a turn for the worse after she got back with ex Lawrence Walker (Jay Ellis).

Season four will see her make a life-changing decision as Lawrence revealed he had secured a new job in San Francisco and invited Issa to join him.

In a jaw-dropping scene Condola Hayes (Christina Elmore) Lawrence’s ex announced that she was pregnant with his baby.

Leaving Issa with the decision to join her boyfriend and leave Los Angeles or dump him as he’s about to become a father.

Either way, she’s going to need her best friend’s support – hopefully, viewers will see Molly lend a shoulder to lean on.

Insecure season 5 premieres on HBO in the USA in October. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
