As Sam Thompson took on his first solo challenge during Thursday’s edition of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, all eyes were on the excitable star as he channelled his best ‘secret agent’ energy to bring home a full house of stars for his hungry camp-mates.
But while the star undoubtedly had plenty to celebrate, eagle eyed fans at home could’t help but be distracted by a glimpse of Sam’s iconic tattoo to his best pal Pete Wicks.
The prominent ink work, which is located on Sam’s forearm was only on screen for a second before the cameras cut away, but fans at home had definitely clocked it and took to social media to share their surprise at the tattoo tribute.
Many people had thought that if Sam had a tribute to anyone on his body, it would be his girlfriend Zara McDermott, but instead the star paid tribute to his off-screen BFF Pete.
Taking to social media, one fan wrote: "Please can someone confirm if this is a tattoo of @P_Wicks01 on @SamThompsonUK arm?”
Before a second commented: ”I’m sure I saw a tattoo of Pete on Sam’s arm.”
A third viewer then confirmed the matter, as they added: "It is and Pete got one of Sam.”
Opening up about the tattoos back in 2021, Sam seemed remarkably proud of the design that was immortalised on his body, however Pete it seemed, was less than thrilled.
Speaking to OK! at the time, Pete said: “It was probably one of the worst decisions of my life, I’ll be honest with you. Who on earth would want Sam Thompson tattooed on them?
“It’s something we agreed to do ages and ages ago and we mentioned it a few times [on the podcast] so we ended up doing it for our show but I didn’t think we would actually end up getting each other’s faces.
“His is on his forearm, he’s over the moon with it! Whereas mine’s on my hip and will probably be getting covered at some point because we didn’t have a lot of room to put it in.”
The matching tattoos are just one aspect of Sam and Pete’s enduring friendship, which comes four years on since they first crossed paths while starring in the 2019 series of Celebs Go Dating.
Hitting it off on the show, Pete came to Sam’s rescue after he fell victim to a disastrous date which saw his potential love interest “zone-out” mid conversation.
You don’t let anyone tell you they’re zoning out when they’re out with you,” Pete told him, before urging him not to accept anything less than the respect he deserved.
Following their time on the show, the duo later went on to take their bromance to the next level when they launched their very own podcast, Staying Relevant, where they discuss “what it takes to stay relevant in the public eye”.
Although Pete has often joked about how “annoying” he finds Sam, he is undoubtedly the star’s biggest cheerleader, and even called his pal a “very special man” as he embarked on his I’m a Celeb challenge.
Pete told OK!: “He’s full on and annoys the s*** out of me, but that’s part and parcel of Sam. The most beautiful thing about Sam is that he’s unique.
“He’s a very special man and he’s got a genuine heart. He's one of the most genuine people and all he wants to do is entertain and make people smile. That's why I've missed him because I am much like a lot of people – quite miserable.”
