Jay Kontzle hints at big Emmerdale return for murderous villain

Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) revealed the wonderful news that they’re expecting a baby in Emmerdale.

This is the first child Billy and Dawn will have together, following an adoption and guardianship case involving Lucas and Clemmie.

Lucas is Dawn’s son, but Alex (Liam Boyle) is his father. He is also Clemmie’s dad, but Dawn only discovered that when she attended the funeral of Clemmie’s mum’s and found the young girl asleep in a dog bed.

Dawn and Alex were together when Dawn was a drug addict. While Dawn has changed her life around, the same couldn’t be said for Alex, who recently returned to the village and tried to rob the surgery, all while threatening to make Dawn and Billy’s adoption case a nightmare.

Alex scurried away from the village after Charles (Kevin Mathurin) intervened and scared him away but as Jay Kontzle explains here, there’s always a chance he could come back:

‘He’s always going to be in the back of everyone’s minds and it’s one of them things that we’re kind of tethered together’, he said.

‘Just with the fact that Dawn and Billy have now got Lucas and Clemmie and Alex’s not seen or heard at the moment, he’s not out of the picture. So yeah, there’s always potential for him to pop up and do some damage.’

Joining Jay for the chat was Olivia Bromley, who added: ‘I think that he’s just a presence in Billy and Dawn’s lives, like Jay says, that they can’t get rid of him entirely because of the kids. But at the moment, they think Alex is out of the picture and they’ve got a little bit of relief, because he left the village under very scared circumstances.

‘Billy and Dawn are positive he’s not around now. But yeah, he could crop up at any time, so it’s a bit of a threat.’

One of the things at the forefront of Billy and Dawn’s minds is the prospect of telling Lucas and Clemmie the news about their baby.

While they can predict Lucas’ response, Billy and Dawn are aware of Clemmie’s emotional complexities so, according to Jay, the couple need to tread carefully:

‘It’s not a potentially great time to be telling your child there’s another baby on the way when she is such a fragile little girl. So, they’re kind of tentative in terms of when is that right time and walking on eggshells a little bit. And it’s just how you get those words across and making sure that the way that it is put across is that inclusion and obviously, making sure that she’s involved in moving forward and being part of that family itself, because she is obviously adopted.

‘It’s making sure that she feels involved in the family moving forward, because Lucas is Dawn’s child, this would be our child, and she is adopted. So, it’s making sure that what is said is said in the right way. And it’s just making sure that it’s the right time as well.

‘These are the conversations that obviously Dawn and Billy will be having and trying to focus on getting those words across, potentially after her birthday because that day is obviously all about her.’

‘Billy’s always wanted to make sure that Dawn is happy moving forward and stuff’, Jay added.

‘It’s always one of the things that he’s always been conscious about because of his own life upbringing himself and that family meant a lot to him. And just to be around, really, so he’s always wanted to obviously look after Clemmie and Lucas and give them the father that they potentially never had.’
