Love Island 2023: Live updates from the villa

Love Island 2023 is back with its ninth season – and Daily Star is here to keep you coupled up with all the latest villa updates you'll need.

The new winter series returned to ITV2 and ITVX on Monday night (January 16) with new host Maya Jama making her villa debut after previous host Laura Whitmore stepped down from the role last year.

The winter series is taking place in South Africa again, but this time we've got a giant new villa in the Ludus Magnus estate of the Cape Winelands in Franschhoek – an area famed for fancy hotels and premium wine.

We've also got a fresh batch of singletons searching for love in the sun with an eye on the £50,000 cash prize awarded to the winning couple.

The first 10 islanders include the likes of ring girl Olivia Hawkins, farmer Will Young, and biomedical science student Tanya Manhenga.

From firepit dramas to bombshell arrivals, this Daily Star live blog will run every day of this series to ensure you don't miss a thing.

Love Island Day 1: Olivia Hawkins snub and bombshell twist

Love Island 2023 kicked off on Monday night (January 16) with new host Maya Jama overseeing the first coupling ceremony of the winter series.

The first 10 contestants landed in their luxury new South African villa and met each-other for the first time, but there was a twist as the girls got to choose which boy they wanted to couple up with.

The first couples are Tanya and Shaq, Anna-May and Haris, Lana and Ron, Tanyel and Kai and Olivia and Will.

But the first episode wasn't short of drama as both Olivia and Anna-May were left single during the coupling process.

Anna-May originally chose to couple up with Kai, but Olivia decided to swoop in and choose him for herself, but Kai later stepped forward for Tanyel who chose him too.

It meant Olivia was snubbed and single and had to be paired up with farmer hunk Will, and they got off to a rocky start as fans spotted their awkward first hug.

The episode ended with another twist when its first bombshell, semi-pro footballer Tom Clare, entered the villa to break up one of the happy couples – just as the couples were getting to know one another.

He's set to choose which girl he wants to steal on Tuesday's episode (January 17).
