NCIS season 19, episode seven’s Docked proved to be an emotional one as Agent Timothy McGee (played by Sean Murray) got tangled up in the latest investigation. But fans were left emotional when it was revealed at the end of the episode that it was dedicated to a member of staff who sadly passed away. Harriet Margulies died after working for the CBS drama for almost two decades.

NCIS paid tribute to former producer’s assistant and audience liaison Harriet Margulies on Monday, November 8.

After the episode Docked aired on CBS, a title card was shown which read: “In memory of our friend and colleague Harriet Margulies. We will miss you.”

According to CBS, Harriet passed away on Saturday, October 30, in Northridge, California, at the age of 94.

She had dedicated many years of her life to NCIS as well as its predecessor JAG.

Harriet started out as a publicist in New York and then Los Angeles, before becoming a production assistant for Universal Television in the 1970s.

It was here that she worked on shows such as Kojak, Magnum, PI and Quantum Leap.

She even co-wrote an episode of Kojak in 1977 and appeared onscreen in JAG and NCIS.

In the 1990s, Harriet was employed as an audience liaison which is why many fans will remember her, despite playing an offscreen role.

Harriet’s job was to be the go-between for Belisarius Productions and the NCIS fanbase, responding to hundreds of information requests from viewers.

Years ago, she helped to organise the fan participation at an annual NCIS convention in Los Angeles, scheduling a set visit for attendees.

She had previously worked as an audience liaison for JAG and Quantum Leap as well so fans of those shows also knew Harriet.

According to Variety, the character Harriet Sims in JAG was named after her.
