Outlander explained as Claire asks Tom Christie for Vir Meus

Outlander's Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe speaking ahead of new season

Tom Christie (played by Mark Lewis Jones) kept his promise to Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) as he desperately tried to keep Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) safe in Outlander season seven, episode one.

When Claire was taken from a prison in Wilmington to a ship to tend to the Governor’s pregnant wife, she insisted she needed some supplies from the mainland.

Unaware Jamie had arrived in Wilmington, Claire sent the note to Tom and listed “Vir Meus” as one of the items she needed.

Tom quickly tracked down Jamie and told him where Claire was and the message she had sent to him.

But what does Vir Meus mean and why was it so important?

What does Vir Meus mean?

Vir Meus means “my husband” in Latin and Claire included it in the list of items she needed as she knew only Jamie could save her.

Tom kept his word to keep Claire safe and urged Jamie to rush to his wife, which he did.

Unfortunately, the Governor was reluctant to let Claire go given the charges against her.

He did however, strike a deal with the Governor. If he were to gather 200 men to fight for the crown, Claire could go free.

Jamie agreed but Tom was on hand to help the couple again as he confessed to killing his daughter Malva (Jessica Reynolds).

At first the highlander is reluctant to let Tom confess but eventually agrees and the pair settle their long-held feud.

The reason for Tom’s confession is later confirmed as he tells Claire he is in love with her.

Claire is shared by the revelation but when Tom hands over his confession to the Governor, she is able to reunite with Jamie.

He reassures Claire that Tom felt compelled to make good on his promise to protect and defend her.

Ensuring Claire is further safe from harm, Jamie goes on to track down Richard Brown and his men, who seemingly are all murdered in an act of revenge.

Outlander season 7 continues Friday on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
