Phillip Schofield open-mouthed over India Willoughby’s reaction to Trump protests

Phil Schofield quizzes India Willoughby on her US protests take

Phillip Schofield, 58, hosted a debate with Holly Willoughby, 39, as they spoke with broadcaster’s India Willoughby, 55, and Nicola Thorp, 32, about the day’s headlines. With reports four people had died after protestors rioted within the Senate on Wednesday after Donald Trump, 74, lost the presidential election, the This Morning presenters asked their guests how they felt about the scenes. India went on to offer an opinion her co-stars deemed controversial as she suggested the police response to the riots was no different to that which was given towards the Black Lives Matter protests last year.

After India gave her opinion on the matter, Phillip asked: “I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Are you supporting the people who broke into the building yesterday?”

The guest fiercely refuted any claim she was supporting the protestors, adding she “categorically condemned it”.

Still confused, the host inquired: “Are you saying there is a difference between the police and military reaction to the storming of the Capitol building yesterday to what would have been very different if it was a Black Lives Matter demonstration that had gone that far?”

“I’m saying that the media coverage of the two campaigns,” India went on to say before being cut off by the presenter.

“Not the coverage, the reaction of the police and the military,” the host said as he tried to get some clarity on what the guest was saying.

“I think it’s been basically the same. I don’t see any difference in terms of the police brutality,” she shared.

Nicola could be seen throwing her hands in the air as she declared: “Are you kidding me?” with Phillip sat open-mouthed.

The former soap star jumped in before the presenter could go on, adding: “Black people have been killed in the streets, black people have been shot at.

“There was a woman called Miriam Carey in 2013, a black woman with her 13-year-old daughter in the back seat who took a wrong turn when she got to Capitol Hill.”

“She was shot six times in the head. There is a difference,” Nicola explained before Holly took over the debate.

“It was obviously a complete difference in how people were treated there,” she said as scenes from the riots were shown on-screen.

Taking to Twitter, viewers were not happy as one wrote: “Did you sleep through last night and forget you were on telly this morning @IndiaWilloughby?

“How can you say, with conviction, there was no difference between the police and military reaction to last night’s riot and the BLM protests? Absolutely shocking comments #ThisMorning,” they continued.

A second added: “Minds blown how ignorant people like India get such a platform, how someone can think the police have treated the terrorism of the trump supporters and the BLM movement the same is embarrassing to watch #ThisMorning.”

Whilst a third posted: “First time ever I’ve disagreed with India. Just look back at footage! And compare the two! #ThisMorning.”

A fifth commented: “I completely disagree with India’s comments #ThisMorning.”

Following the protests which erupted on Wednesday, the Congress has confirmed President-Elect Joe Biden, 78, has won the election.

This sets the record straight after the latter also gained the most electoral votes back in November when the race was supposed to conclude.

The President-Elect will be sworn into office in just over a week’s time and his predecessor has given his thoughts on the result.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump said.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
