Jeremiah Raber first appeared on television in 2012 when TLC’s Breaking Amish debuted and he continued on with Breaking Amish: Brave New World and Return to Amish. He married Carmela Mendez in 2016, although the marriage had plenty of rocky moments after the two exchanged vows.
In the years after Jeremiah and Carmela married, there were some intense allegations and estrangements. Radar Online detailed in April 2017 that Jeremiah was arrested amid allegations of domestic violence. Carmela alleged that Jeremiah struck her and caused several bruises, and that he further threatened her. He insisted there was more to the story and indicated he planned on filing for divorce.
However, the two reconciled, but later that same year, things got messy again. In October 2017, Jeremiah alleged that Carmela was addicted to pain medication and had stolen funds after they sold their home (via InTouch Weekly). Despite the threats of divorce and various battles that Jeremiah and Carmela went through during the first couple of years of their marriage, they seemingly managed to stick it out.
After a hiatus, TLC announced in January 2021 via Facebook that Return to Amish would return for a sixth season. The series disappeared for a couple of years, but the network seemingly decided that Jeremiah, Carmela, and their fellow cast members still had more to share with the show’s fans.
Jeremiah and Carmela Raber stuck together
The Season 6 Return to Amish sneak peek shared by Access featured Jeremiah and Carmela Raber together, revealing that their marriage was still intact. Fans who kept up with the two via their social media pages between the seasons already knew that was the case. For example, in April 2020, Jeremiah posted a photo on his Facebook page noting the passing of his mother-in-law, and the snapshot was of Carmela and her mom.
A 2021 Valentine’s Day post on Jeremiah’s Facebook page showed him doing some filming with Carmela. Shortly before that, Carmela shared an update via her Facebook page that teasingly questioned her husband’s habit of leaving cheese on the kitchen counter for days at a time.
One of the central storylines in Return to Amish Season 6 was set to focus on Jeremiah’s search for his biological family. An initial preview of the upcoming season revealed that Jeremiah would meet up with his biological father and Carmela would be right by his side. Given that, it certainly appears that the couple found a way through the intense challenges they faced early in their marriage and came out of it stronger than ever.
