Rick and Morty is the sci-fi adult animated comedy that sees selfish genius Rick go on adventures with his curious yet nervous grandson Morty. Series six has been playing out every Sunday on Adult Swim and every Monday on E4 since September with fans now wondering if there will be more to come. Here’s everything Express.co.uk knows about the future of Rick and Morty so far.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Rick and Morty.

Rick and Morty season six finishes with its 10th and final instalment in the USA on Adult Swim today, Sunday, December 11.

This same episode will come out in the UK tomorrow, Monday December 12, on E4, so the wait isn’t too between release dates.

The episode entitled Ricktional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation will see how Morty wants a particular gift every year for Christmas but has never received it.

But could this finally be the year that Rick caves in and give Morty his Christmas wish?

Will there be a Rick and Morty season 7?

While Adult Swim hasn’t made a recent announcement regarding the future of Rick and Morty, there is no need to be concerned.

Back in 2018, following the release of series four, the creators of Rick and Morty signed a 70-episode renewal deal with the network.

There are typically 10 episodes per season which meant at the time that there were 60 instalments left as part of the deal.

Fast-forward to 2022 and there are still 30 new episodes of Rick and Morty to look forward to.

So yes, there will be a Rick and Morty season seven on the way for Adult Swim and E4 viewers.

An official release date for this upcoming series has not yet been confirmed.

But series five came out in June 2022 and season five just a few months later in September.

Therefore, it could just be a matter of months before fans are treated to series seven.

In February 2021, writer Alex Rubens did reveal that the series was already in production with it then being announced in August that production had been wrapped up.

Taking to Twitter, writer Cody Ziglar wrote: “That’s a friggin’ wrap on Rick & Morty season 7.

“We all stared into the abyss & saw the face of God & It was a Gundam.”

Previously, fans had to wait 18 months between series two and three and then another two years for season four.

Showrunner Scott Marder did state that they are now one step ahead when it comes to creating new episodes.

He told Newsweek: “I am on [Season 8]. I am on 8, and 9 we’ll be starting top of next year.

“So we’re getting ahead and it’s awesome, really exciting.

“We’re overlapping like two or three seasons in the records so from our perspective, it’s a real kaleidoscope.”

Rick and Morty is available to watch on Adult Swim in the USA and E4 in the UK.
