Sir Cliff Richard has admitted it's "terrifying" to be on tour for a long period of time.

The 82-year-old singer appeared on This Morning on Tuesday (November 29) to promote his first Christmas record in 19 years.

He is currently battling it out against rapper Stomzy to win this week's Official Number 1 album.

Conversation turned to touring and Cliff admitted that he will no longer be taking part in huge tours and will be sticking to smaller amount of dates instead.

He told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that it's "terrifying" because "you don't know what day you'll wake up and that's not going to work" while pointing at his throat.

Cliff's latest TV interview comes days after he appeared on BBC's The One Show.

He sat next to EastEnders legend Charlie Brooks, who plays Janine Butcher, on the famous green sofa and it wasn't long until things turned hilariously savage in the studio.

Charlie had been told that Sir Cliff was discovered when he stepped in for her grandad's band – so she wanted to know if the family mystery was true.

She told Sir Cliff: "The story went Cliff that you back in the day were a roadie for my granddad," quickly adding: "Now that could have been changed, it might be a myth. We don't know."

Charlie went on to recount the story: "One evening, the lead singer went off and you stepped in, and there was a scout in that night and that's when you were discovered."

But Sir Cliff was about to break her heart as he bluntly debunked the story, looking around the room with a jokingly disapproving look and declaring it: "absolute rubbish".

It prompted Charlie and hosts Alex and Gethin Jones to burst out laughing, but poor Charlie was gutted the family story wasn't true.

Sir Cliff obviously saw the funny side too as he started laughing as Gethin said:" Such a brilliant build up, as well, wasn't it?"

But he later admitted that her story was actually "close" as he used to play in pubs with two friends – a drummer and a guitarist – with one of the places being Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire.

Charlie excitedly added: "Yes, that's where they're from – Terry park! He was an identical twin," prompting Sir Cliff to reveal that the story was actually somewhat true.

It turns out a talent scout in a big leather jacket walked in and watched Sir Cliff's band playing at the pub, later telling Sir Cliff: "I can make you a star."
