Springwatch's Chris Packham stuns fans with shock career revelation after 37 years on screen | The Sun

SPRINGWATCH'S Chris Packham has shocked fans with a new career update after being on the show for 37 years.

For the BBC series Earth, which examines the history of our planet, the naturalist took viewers back in time.


In 1983, Chris, 62 worked part-time as a camera assistant for wildlife cinematographer Stephen Bolwell.

His TV career took off unexpectedly, and he began as a presenter for the kids' show The Really Wild Show in 1986.

Now, Chris has revealed he never imagined his profession would lead him to television.

"We're all accidental broadcasters, and I never wanted to be on TV," Chris explained. "Brian Cox was a scientist, Sir David Attenborough was in charge of BBC Two, and we ended up there."

He continued: ""When I first started presenting in the 1980s, I looked up to guys like [astronomer] Carl Sagan, [mathematician] Jacob Bronowski, and certainly [travel presenter] Alan Whicker and Sir David."

It comes after Chris Packham confessed to having a very unusual hobby as he made his Celebrity Gogglebox debut.

The wildlife expert appeared on the Channel 4 show for the first time on Friday night alongside his grown up stepdaughter Megan.

But fans were left completely divided over his casting – especially after he revealed his secret "obsession".

Chris told Megan: "I have cut back but obviously there are quite a few chairs in storage. Fifteen, 20 maybe."

When Megan complained that she didn't have that many chairs in her house, Chris went on: "You haven't been through a complete chair obsession.
