Strictly chaos as Will Mellor suffers injury days before first live show

Corrie star Will Mellor, 46, has been described as the "peas' knees" after sitting down with a bag of frozen veg to ease the pain in his joint while rehearsing for Strictly Come Dancing.

Preparations for the BBC series are well underway, with Will, 46, appearing to have suffered a slight injury ahead of the launch show on Friday.

In a clip on Instagram, the Coronation Street favourite sat down on a chair as he held a bag of frozen peas to his knee, after previously revealing he is worried about suffering a knee injury live on air.

Will said: "Just in rehearsal for Strictly. Will's knees sponsored by peas," adding: I'm knackered."

One online fan wrote: "You’re the peas knees!! keep going pal!!"

Will, who has a history of knee trouble dating back more than 10 years, admitted he thinks there was a chance some of his dance routines going awry.

He told Digital Spy: "I don't want to get injured. I've got bad knees and football injuries, operations and stuff. I'm having to ice them every night,"

He added: "If they pop out in the middle of a dance routine live on telly, there's not much I can do because I will just hit the floor, and they do."

Will has recently revealed the effect his dad Bill's death in April 2020 from cancer had on him and how it "changed his mindset", pushing him to sign up for Strictly.

He said: "I thought, 'I've got to grab life, I've got to do stuff.' It really changed my mindset and I've just got to say yes to more things.

"And it's my mum's favourite show and she's had the worst time of it, so I thought we've got to have a bit of positive in our lives."
