The Chase turned a little awkward on Monday evening when one contestant admitted he didn't want to face Mark Labbett – only for The Beast to appear.
Retired journalist Jim confessed his partner had a soft spot for the award-winning quizzer, meaning he had no interest in facing him on the podium.
Unfortunately, Mark appeared before him moments later, leading Jim to awkwardly look away.
After Jim earned an impressive £6,000 in the quickfire question round, he was led to the podium, where host Bradley Walsh asked him who he'd like to play.
"The lady in my life is a mega-fan of Mark," Jim replied, adding: "I’ve no wish to stray in her loyalties.
"My initial reaction is anyone but The Beast."
Jim then admitted his ideal opponent was Anne Hegerty, appreciating her quizzing credentials.
"Because of her Scottish connections, I would probably quite fancy taking on Anne," he said.
Brad pressed Jim for details about his partner, asking: "Oh-oh! What's your other half's name?"
Jim confirmed her name was Cilla, just as Mark appeared before them, backlit in red as he walked towards the hot seat.
"It's Cilla's favourite – The Beast!" Bradley exclaiming, trying his best to diffuse any awkwardness.
"I don't know what I'm going to do," Jim replied, looking to the ground.
Thankfully, Mark decided against making the situation worse, and instead changed the topic of the conversation completely.
Jim's stellar first round made Brad hopeful he was going to win, as he plumped for the middle offer before facing the questions.
Unfortunately, he was unlucky with his answers and was soon sent home empty-handed by a disappointed Brad.

Admitting Jim was a far stronger player than the round suggested, Brad said: "Didn't see that coming."
Mark was in agreement, adding Jim had been capable of going for the risky high offer, thanks to his previous performance.
"I thought he missed a trick by not going high," he confessed.
