There have been some extremely unexpected people hidden under the masks and fans have been left shocked by their true identity.

Take a look at some of the wildest reveals from the competition so far.

Michael Owen

The former footballer set social media ablaze when his identity was unveiled.

Owen, who is the father of Love Island star Gemma Owen, made his way through to the sixth week of the show and was a fan favourite from his first appearance.

However, it was decided that he would be sent home alongside actress Jamie Winstone, who dressed up as Firework.

Michael made sure to go out with a bang and performed Everybody Get Up by Five.

Upon his departure, the football player took to Twitter to hilariously apologise for his attempts at singing.

He wrote: “Finally, I can apologise for burning your ears these last few weeks.”

John Thompson

The Cold Feet actor took to the stage as Bush Baby alongside eight other contestants.

However, he was voted in the bottom two with Dragon, played by Sue Perkins.

The judging panel were amazed to see Thompson was behind the adorable mask, especially Jonathan Ross, who recalled that they had previously worked together.

John even attempted to throw off the judges by using a fake Australian accent during his performance.

Cee Lo Green

The singer played Monster and much to many viewers’ delight, the correct answer to their assumptions.

He was booted off the show in a double elimination but the judges had a hard time guessing at his identity.

Cee Lo’s distinctive voice will be instantly recognisable to many but the panel struggled and at one point, Jonathan even guessed that Monster could be Noel Fielding.

Green even revealed that he is a huge fan of the show and appreciated the feedback he was given.

Joss Stone

Joss managed to win the series as Sausage, narrowly followed by Ne-Yo as Badger.

Sausage was the talk of the series as viewers couldn’t figure out who was behind the mask.

Many though Sausage could be Sheridan Smith or Stacey Solomon – so much so that the Loose Women star’s partner Joe Swash was convinced Stacey had secretly been taking part.

Joss went through the show completely undetected and five months pregnant at the time.

Ne-Yo

The RnB singer was Joss’ opponent in the final and secured second place behind the Sausage singer.

He put on a good show and had everyone confused, aside from former Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts.

Ne-Yo performed as Badger and admitted that only his wife knew he was taking part in the ITV show.

However, his four-year-old son had a hunch and the singer revealed how he knew.

Ne-Yo explained: “The only person who caught it was my four-year-old son, he said: ‘That bear sounds like daddy!’”

Jason Manford

The Hedgehog star appeared on the first series of The Masked Singer and was watched by nearly eight million people.

He made it to the final round but according to the star, one of his pals unknowingly mocked his singing voice.

Manford said he rang Alfie Boe to ask his whether he had been watching the show and sneakily commented that “people have been asking him whether he’s Hedgehog”.

Jason then continued: “He said: ‘Me too,’ so I watched it on Saturday night and said to myself: ‘I’m not that crap at singing’.”

The Masked Singer returns to ITV1 on Sunday, January 1 at 6.30pm
