'To All the Boys: Always and Forever': Which Character is Missing from the Trailer?

The trailer for the Netflix movie To All the Boys: Always and Forever just became available for fans to watch on Jan. 13 almost a year after the sequel in the series, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You was released, on Feb. 12, 2020. Author of the book series, Jenny Han, gifted the audience with the trailer for the third film, showing Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) figuring out their senior year of high school and their future while being together — but, a key character from the second film was missing in the To All the Boys: Always and Forever trailer.

Which character is missing? Read on to find out who.

What the trailer for ‘To All the Boys: Always and Forever’ shows

The trailer for To All the Boys: Always and Forever shows Lara Jean and Peter planning out their next steps after high school. The two decide to both go to Stanford University, but when Lara Jean’s admission decision is still unknown, she visits New York City with school friends and finds that she might want to go there for school instead. She has to decide between following a new path, maybe without Peter, or sticking by him at the California school.

Who’s missing from the trailer?

Jordan Fisher, who plays John Ambrose McClaren in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, is nowhere to be seen in the trailer for To All the Boys: Always and Forever. Fisher’s IMDb page also shows no credit for him as the character in the third and final film.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in February 2020, Fisher said about a return in the third movie: “Possibly, I mean, we’ll have to see…”

What the third book tells us about a possible John Ambrose return

Fans of the book series know how John Ambrose’s story unfolds. The book that the third and final film is based on, Always and Forever, Lara Jean, came out in 2017 and doesn’t involve John Ambrose in the story.

Unfortunately for Fisher fans, John Ambrose’s part of the films might have concluded in the second movie — as it does in the second book.

However, the movie series has changed details before and seems to do so in the third film. In the books, Peter plans to go to the University of Virginia and Lara Jean plans on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, so they can be close together. In the movie, the trailer reveals that the two plan on going to Stanford in California.

This may indicate that To All the Boys: Always and Forever might change another detail, too, involving fan-favorite John Ambrose with Fisher returning to play the character. We’ll have to wait and see if Fisher does indeed come back for the last movie in the franchise. But for now, we’ll just keep playing the trailer on repeat.
