Netflix leading lady Alexandra Breckenridge has been keeping fans of the show updated with a number of behind-the-scenes posts on Instagram. The Virgin River star recently spoke candidly about the upcoming shoot for season five, and some of her comments had fans concerned her next appearance as Mel Monroe could be her last.

Alexandra opened up to fans on her social media cooking show about the plans for Virgin River moving ahead.

Not only will the series be returning for a fourth season later this year, but the series has already been given the go-ahead for season five.

Chatting to her 805k followers on her Instagram cooking show, she gave some more insight into when the cast is likely to return to set.

She confirmed: “We were supposed to start in March, but it was pushed.”

Popularity for the series has only gotten bigger with the last season, and Netflix was aiming for a quick turnaround between seasons four and five.

However, it’s now unclear when exactly production will return to Vancouver to start the second of the confirmed two new outings.

Alexandra admitted: “I don’t know. I don’t know, man.

“I’m hoping that maybe we’ll start in the summer.”

Previous instalments have all been shot throughout the later months of the year, usually commencing in September and wrapping up in December.

Fans of the show know most of the series doesn’t actually take place during the colder season.

This has meant Alexandra, Martin Henderson and the rest of the cast have had to endure the freezing cold in summer outfits, something the actress is eager not to repeat.

“It would be nice to film in Vancouver in the summer rather than the winter,” she explained.

“Because, to be quite frank with you guys, I’m pretty done filming in Vancouver in the winter.”

The major Canadian city frequently endures freezing weather and heavy snowfall from as early as November, which doesn’t stop until around March or even the start of April.

As the Virgin River cast aren’t decked out in winter clothes for most of the shoot, filming as Mel and Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) has been an unpleasant experience.

Alexandra continued: “Not really interested in doing that ever again, actually.

“It’s really cold. And when you’re standing outside in sandals, and little outfits because it’s supposed to be the middle of summer – not awesome!”

Her comments sparked a wave of comments from fans who expressed their worries about Alexandra potentially quitting the series if future seasons return to the winter schedule.

IG user forloveofvirginriver asked: “So if they end up keeping the same schedule she’ll quit?”

And loretta1717 begged the actress: “Noooooo. You can’t quit.

“No one else could ever take your place, it would not be the same. Please don’t stop.”

Filming will likely just have been pushed by just a few weeks, so hopefully, the wildly popular romantic drama can keep its core cast for the time being.

Virgin River seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
