A British Army lance corporal who was accused of thrusting his face into a female soldier’s lap before ‘motorboating’ her was today cleared in court. 

Lance Corporal Daniel Monk, 31, was wearing a bright green outfit and comedy stick-on moustache when it was claimed he carried out the drunken act on a woman at a social club in Andover, Hampshire. 

The woman had claimed he also put his arm around her and kissed her before the alleged assault outside Ludgershall Sports and Social Club. 

LCpl Monk had denied all allegations. He let out a sigh of relief and wept with joy as he heard he had been cleared of sexual assault at Bulford Military Court.

The board spent just 15 minutes deliberating before delivering a unanimous verdict of not guilty on Friday.

Bulford Military Court heard there were more than 50 people enjoying the evening when LCpl Monk was alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman.

LCpl Monk was dressed as video game character Luigi, Mario’s brother, in a green costume finished off with a thick, black moustache. 

The woman had claimed LCpl Monk had carried out the lewd act after drinking so much he was staggering and ‘speaking gibberish’.

Bulford Military Court’s board spent just 15 minutes deliberating before delivering a unanimous verdict of not guilty 

LCpl Monk told the court he had had between 10 and 12 drinks over the evening which left him ‘tipsy’ and ‘drunk towards the end of the night’, but ‘not in the state [she] described me in’.

He said he put one drunk Sapper in a minibus home and claimed if he had been in a similar state he would have been dealt with in the same way.

He said the next day he saw the female soldier in passing and asked how her evening was, to which she nodded and said she had had a ‘good night’.

LCpl Monk was cleared of one count of sexual assault by touching at Bulford Military Court.
