Brian Laundrie sleuths convinced his parents 'hid gun under flowerbed' as autopsy confirms fugitive's suicide

SOME online sleuths wildly claimed that Brian Laundrie's parents "hid a gun under a flowerbed" in their backyard after an autopsy confirmed their son died by suicide.

Brian's autopsy revealed he died from a single gunshot to the head – weeks after his remains were found in the Florida wilderness by detectives.

"I'm going with it was assisted suicide… help from the perfect parents…" read one post on the Gabby Petito ~ Vanished Discussion Facebook group, which has more than 50,000 members.

"Maybe they'll find the gun in those flower beds," continued the post.

There is no evidence to support the wild claims.

The Laundrie's attorney Steven Bertolino did not reveal where the gun Brian used to kill himself came from or if it has been located by police.

When asked about the weapon used by Brian, he told The Sun: "Not certain."

However, Fox News reports that when the Laundrie family handed over their firearms to the FBI in September one was missing.

It is not clear if this is believed to be the gun used in Brian's suicide.

Online sleuths obsessed with the case have long theorized about the flowerbed in the Laundries' backyard.

They wildly speculated that Brian was hiding in a Doomsday bunker under the flower bed after "drone footage appeared to show suspicious movements".

The footage appeared to show a woman, who sleuths claimed to be Brian’s mom, gardening and working on one of her flowerbeds.

A man, who online detectives say was Christopher Laundrie, appeared to be standing by watching.

Social media sleuths also wildly alleged that they could see a “hand” emerge from underneath the flower bed. There's no evidence to support this baseless claim.

One said: "That really looks like a hand in the flowerbed."

Other social media users were skeptical as they suggested the woman was pulling out a weed from the flowerbed.

Online sleuths also wildly claimed they spotted a water bottle in his parents' garden that matched one found near his remains.

A charcoal Nalgene water bottle with distinct markings on it was turned over to the FBI last month for investigation.

A TikToker, known as chroniclesofoliviabackup, found the bottle in Myakkaahatchee Park in Florida.

A similar-looking water bottle can be seen in the Nomadic Statik YouTube video Gabby Petito posted online in mid-August.

There is no confirmation that it is the same bottle.

The District 12 Medical Examiner's office finally reported its results on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that Brian had died by suicide from a single gunshot wound to the head.

"Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide," Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino told The Sun.

Laundrie's skeletal remains were found in the Myakkahatchee Creek Park on October 20 – a month after Gabby's body was found at a Wyoming campsite.
