A househunter thought she may have stepped into a nightmare after finding a ‘creepy giant religious statue’ resembling actor Nicolas Cage while browsing a property for sale.
Jess Hogan was househunting online when she spotted the life-size carved wooden statue of Saint Francis of Assisi bearing a startling resemblance to the Hollywood star in one of the rooms of the four-bed house in Poole, Dorset.
The 6ft unexpected house guest was lurking in the living room of the house, which is up for sale for offers of more than £375,000.
The ornate carving shows Saint Francis of Assisi wearing flowing robes, with a rosary hanging from his waist and holding a cross.

The statue has been in the property for a while, but has previously had a home in a church in Bournemouth
People have been likening the statue to Hollywood star Nicolas Cage
The 6ft unexpected house guest was lurking in the living room of the house, which is up for sale for offers of more than £375,000.
The seller of the property has admitted the statue has the ‘shock factor’ and has caused previous house guests to ‘jump out of their skin’ when they see it.
‘It’s a carving of St Francis – the patron saint of children and animals,’ they said.
‘We found it in Bali when buying furniture for our reclaimed furniture shop and shipped it back – it was so unusual compared to all the other Indonesian carvings.
‘It had a time at our old house and then a time at a church in Bournemouth.
‘We are now undecided what to do with it so it ended up in the house. It will be the last thing we move as it weighs about 300kg.
‘We bought it and it took us on a very positive journey afterwards so definitely more of a good thing in our lives.’
Psychology student Jess, 26, said the discovery ‘felt like the start of a horror film’.
‘I was looking at houses in that area and saw that one and had a look through the pictures,’ she said. ‘It looked alright and I saw it had a virtual tour so I used that to have a better look around.
‘It was a bit of a shock going in and seeing a weird religious statue in one of the rooms – I just thought it was really funny.

The rooms in the property feel large and spacious due to high ceilings and large windows
‘Because I was doing the virtual tour it was literally like walking into the room and there was just this thing in the corner.
‘It kind of felt like the start of a horror movie – it’s like a warning sign that the house is haunted or that something bad happened there. It’s almost like it’s the statue’s house and he has to stay there – maybe if you move him something bad will happen. It probably comes to life at night.
‘I have no idea why it’s there, it just seemed really out of place. The rest of the house was empty which made it even weirder. I don’t know why they left that in there or why they didn’t just move it out for the pictures at least.’
After virtually meeting the figure, Jess tweeted about her strange discovery, writing: ‘So I was doing a virtual house tour on Rightmove and I ‘walked’ into one room and was greeted by this thing.’
Her find was met with shock and horror by others online, with one saying it reminded them of the weeping angels from Doctor Who.
‘100 percent that thing comes to life during the night’ and joked that the statue’s crucifix may be a hidden sword’, another wrote.
Others pointed out the strange resemblance to Nicolas Cage writing: ‘Is that Nic Cage??’
