Is this Britain's most depressing playground? Kids play on metal slide just metres from a GRAVEYARD

A PLAYGROUND which has a graveyard at the end of a slide has been branded Britain’s most depressing park.

St Mary’s churchyard is just metres from where children play and has at least ten headstones next to the equipment.

The park and graveyard in Rotherhithe, South East London, is also next to the church, surrounded by trees and by riverside flats.

Mum Vanessa Hammick, 39, told My London: “It’s the sort of playground you would use in an emergency.

“We always think it’s funny. My husband says you are born and then you die. I quite like it. I feel an affection for it.”

Paul Jones joked: "If you break your neck going down the slide then they don't have to move you far.

Pensioner Roger Squires, 82, added: "Of course the gravestones are there but the youths in the area have got somewhere to play.

"I do not think the kids think anything of it. My feeling is it makes good use of space."

And mum Saskia Dykstra said her son would not "get it" regarding the graves, adding: "We speak about death and funerals.

"He did actually say to me I saw that old guy on the tube. I said he will go into the ground."
