Mum-of-two teacher who abused schoolgirl she groomed from age 13 is banned from classrooms for life | The Sun

A MUM-of-two teacher who groomed a schoolgirl from the age of 13 has been banned from teaching for life.

Kim Connor, then 22, invited the teen round for weekly extra tuition and at one stage showed her a safe containing various sex toys.

She would also sign off texts from “your Kim”. The situation began to develop after the drama teacher, now 46, kissed the girl on the lips during a lesson when she was 14.

The pair went on holiday to Portugal, had meals out and nights away in hotels.

It lasted six years until the teen found out Connor was secretly undergoing IVF treatment.

The girl became ''enthralled and besotted'' with Connor whilst the victim's unsuspecting parents mistakenly assumed the teacher was mentoring their daughter.

She went to the police in 2018.

A misconduct hearing was told Ms Connor was employed as a performing arts teacher at St Monica's RC High School from 1996 until 2015.

In 2015, Ms Connor taught for one term at Stockport Academy before returning to St Monica's in 2016, where she worked up until March 2018 when she was suspended.

Between 30 September 2004 and 31 December 2004, the sexual misconduct took place between Ms Connor and the pupil, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Jurors were told the pair met in 1998 when the teenager enrolled at arts school where Connor had just joined the drama department.

Staff described her as ''trustworthy, truthful and an honest person of morals and integrity."

Connor was found guilty of three offences of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust and jailed for nine months in July 2020.

And she has now been banned for life from teaching at the misconduct hearing.

Paul Hawkins, who chaired the Teaching Regulation Agency hearing earlier this month, said: "The panel found that the seriousness of the offending behaviour that led to the conviction, and in particular that it involved sexual activity with a child who was and had previously been a pupil in her care, was relevant to Ms Connor's ongoing suitability to teach.

"There was no evidence that Ms Connor's actions were not deliberate."

The panel did not consider Ms Connor had shown insight or remorse for her actions, and determined there was a risk of repetition and therefore a continued risk to pupils.

Banning her from the profession for life, Alan Meyrick, for the Education Secretary, said: " I am particularly mindful of the finding of abuse of position of trust in this case and the impact that such a finding has on the reputation of the profession.

"In my view, it is necessary to impose a prohibition order in order to maintain public confidence in the profession."
