She admitted one charge of misconduct in a public office in that she had a relationship with a prisoner between November 3 last year and February 14.

Judge Philip Parry warned her she could be jailed when he sentences her on February 11.

He told her: ‘You must realise that a custodial sentence will be at the forefront of my mind.’

Her defence barrister Patrick Williamson said she had been ‘of previous good character’ and had no past convictions.

Fallows was released on bail but the judge warned her that failing to turn up for sentencing would be ‘a serious criminal offence in itself’.

Baxendale appeared by video link from HMP Liverpool where he had been transferred from his previous jail in Lancaster.

He admitted one count of possessing a prohibited item between October 1 and December 16 last year. The court heard that he had used it to contact Fallows who had used the name Tony Baxendale to try and cover her tracks.

Defending Holly Nelson said Baxendale wanted to get sentencing ‘over as soon as possible’.

Baxendale attacked Miss Hayes in August 2013 and left her unconscious, her clothing torn and blood splattered around the rooms at his flat in Bolton.
