  • The dishes are rich in irons and vitamins to revive Mr Johnson’s energy levels
  • It is believed he and Ms Symonds have received 200 meals at cost of £17,500

Boris Johnson has enjoyed freshly prepared dishes delivered daily to Downing Street by a chef trained by Marco Pierre White who charges £250 a week.

Mauro Mateus, who works for Daylesford organic farm shops, has prepared meals for the Prime Minister and fiancee Carrie Symonds over the last year.

The dishes are rich in irons and vitamins to revive Mr Johnson’s energy levels after he survived Covid-19 in April.

Portuguese-born Mr Mateus, 33, was identified after the Daily Mail reported this month that the Prime Minister and Miss Symonds have received 100 pre-prepared daily meals for two and a weekly food hamper from Daylesford’s worth an estimated £12,500.

It is now believed they received 200 meals, increasing the total value to around £17,500.

Daylesford is owned by Lady Bamford, wife of JCB construction firm boss Lord Bamford, a billionaire Tory donor.

Mr Johnson and Miss Symonds have followed a bespoke organic regime prepared by Mr Mateus and delivered from Daylesford’s Brompton Cross branch in Kensington, west London.

The Prime Minister’s personalised diet plan is made up of healthy ‘superfoods’ such as kale, lean meat, goji berries and chia seeds.

It was designed to ‘nourish him and give him strength to get back to work’, a well-placed source said.

Mr Johnson weighed around 17 stone when he was admitted to hospital last year. Mr Mateus’s meal plan includes ‘healthy options’ such as a £12 ‘deli salad’.

The head chef is understood to have prepared lunches for the Prime Minister and Miss Symonds on a regular daily basis, and reportedly, occasionally breakfast and supper.

Mr Mateus was trained by TV chef Marco Pierre White at The Belvedere, in Holland Park, west London. He was previously head chef at upmarket cafe Melrose and Morgan in Primrose Hill, north London.

A No 10 spokesman said: ‘The costs of food for personal consumption are met by Mr Johnson.’

Daylesford did not respond to a request for comment.
