Who was Vicky White?

VICKY White made headlines in April 2022 after she allegedly helped a convict escape an Alabama prison.

The two were eventually caught in Indiana, but the case did not have a happy ending.

Who was Vicky White?

Vicky White, 56, was known as the former assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Jail.

She ultimately led a quiet life but gained national attention after she allegedly helped Casey White, 38, escape prison on April 29, 2022.

At the time, Vicky was just hours away from her retirement.

Sheriff Rick Singleton said Vicky was an "exemplary employee" with 17 years of “an unblemished record, not a single negative thing in her personnel file," according to NBC News.

Outside of her occupation and alleged crimes, not much information is available on her personal life and family.

Is Vicky White related to Casey White?

While the two share the same last name, Vicky and Casey are not blood-related.

Instead, they are said to have been in a relationship with each other for over two years, NBC News reports.

They reportedly communicated over the phone throughout the course of their relationship in an attempt to keep it private.

Additional details about their relationship have yet to be revealed.

According to Brenda Smith, a law professor at American University, relationships between inmates and officers are “a very common story."

“I think that it is sort of the construct of supervision in these settings that creates those environments and those opportunities,” Smith told NBC News.

“I think that it really bears a harder look at what’s going on in the institution, and not only for prisoners but also what’s going on for staff as well," she continued.

Smith went on to add that these types of relationships harm “the integrity of the system” because "if this could occur, if the officer could pretty much walk out with the prisoner, then it speaks to a larger problem of the lack of safety in the institution, which should trouble us across the board."

Vicky had reportedly told her colleagues that she was taking Casey to the courthouse for a mental health evaluation, but it was later revealed that an evaluation was never scheduled.

What happened to Vicky White?

On April 29, 2022, Vicky and Casey walked out of the prison for the alleged evaluation and ultimately vanished.

It was not until May 9, 2022, that authorities were able to locate the fugitives in Indiana, which led to a police chase and crash.

After the chase, Casey was taken into custody, and Vicky was rushed to a nearby hospital with "very serious" injuries stemming from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Please help my wife. She just shot herself in the head, and I didn’t do it," Casey reportedly told the US Marshals Service after he surrendered, according to NBC News.

She later died at the hospital as a result of her injuries, but her cause of death is still pending an autopsy.
