This Beyoncé Interview With Oprah Revealed the Real Reason for Keeping Her Life Private Isn't Actually a Surprise

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Beyoncé got candid about her private lifestyle, sharing why she protects her privacy in a world that feeds off publicity. While she did go in-depth about why she doesn’t share her personal life with the world, those who have been keeping up with the Queen Bey know that this isn’t the time she’s spoken on this topic.

Beyoncé’s interview with Oprah revealed why she keeps details about her personal life to herself

Throughout her career, Beyoncé hasn’t provided much access into her life. Unlike celebrities who share everything going on in their lives with the world, the singer has built up the reputation of being notoriously private, which she’s perfectly fine with.

In 2013, Beyoncé opened up about her private lifestyle while speaking with Oprah Winfrey, sharing that maintaining her privacy is “very important.”

“I feel like after so many years, I’ve only shared who I am through my music,” the multi-Grammy winner said. “I feel like that mystique is very important and there are things that I still just don’t feel comfortable talking about.”

Oprah pointed out that Beyoncé doesn’t even tweet a lot, which according to the singer, she doesn’t have the time to do.

“I don’t have time and I think, for me, it’s so much fun to tell my stories through photography,” Beyoncé added.

Rather than letting the world in on her daily happenings, Beyoncé says that there’s a time and place for sharing details of her personal life with the public.

Beyoncé intentionally sets boundaries on her personal life

Although Beyoncé is one of the most recognizable people on the planet, she shares very little when it comes to her personal life.

The reason being is that she would rather keep work and her home life separate to ensure that she stays focused on her art.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been intentional about setting boundaries between my stage persona and my personal life,” she told Harper’s Bazaar for its September issue. “My family and friends often forget the side of me that is the beast in stilettos until they are watching me perform.”

During the interview, Beyoncé shared that she only shares her true self with those who know her best as she doesn’t want to lose control over her personal life.

“It can be easy to lose yourself very quickly in this industry. It takes your spirit and light, then spits you out. I’ve seen it countless times, not only with celebrities but also producers, directors, executives, etc. It’s not for everyone,” Bey continued. “Before I started, I decided that I’d only pursue this career if my self-worth was dependent on more than celebrity success. I’ve surrounded myself with honest people who I admire, who have their own lives and dreams and are not dependent on me. People I can grow and learn from and vice versa.”

Beyoncé’s interview reveals why she protects her privacy so fiercely

Beyoncé’s interview with Harper’s Bazaar reveals the main reason why she doesn’t share many details about her personal life with the public. Though fans would love to have a front-row seat to all that goes on with the singer, protecting this aspect of her life is important to Beyoncé, even though it’s caused her to be perceived as “closed off.”

“In this business, so much of your life does not belong to you unless you fight for it. I’ve fought to protect my sanity and my privacy because the quality of my life depended on it,” she told the outlet. “A lot of who I am is reserved for the people I love and trust. Those who don’t know me and have never met me might interpret that as being closed off. Trust, the reason those folks don’t see certain things about me is because my Virgo a– does not want them to see it…. It’s not because it doesn’t exist!”
