Lush launches no-plastic £10 Naked Mascara – but does it lengthen and tint lashes?

Lush is on a mission to make sure everything they sell is as healthy for your skin and body as it is for the environment. From no-wrap soap bars to reusable knot wrap wrapping paper, Lush has pioneered plastic-free packaging and cruelty-free formulas.

Now, the squeaky clean brand is continuing to lead the charge with its new, zero plastic Naked Mascara,£10 here, a solid block formula made from butters and waxes. Available in four shades, Orca (black), Earth (brown), Reef (coral) and Ocean (blue), it promises to give a subtle tint and lift to the lashes.

To use it, wet one of the plastic-free mascara wands (there are three to pick from), wiggle it into the hole in the middle of the balm to pick up pigment, then comb it through your lashes. Leave the brush and the solid mascara to dry separately. Simple.

Our OK! beauty director Lynne gave it a go on her lashes to see if it could add length and thickness, and has been left impressed by the results.

“It takes a bit of building up but I’m impressed by how much I like the finished effect. It's a great daytime mascara, giving a pretty and fluttery look with no crispy feel. This is natural beauty at its best.”

All in all, perfect for anyone looking for a cruelty-free, vegan and plastic-free alternative to a regular mascara.

In other beauty news from the week, another £10 buy from Nivea, who has just launched its own #CutbackOnPlasticPollution campaign, has been hitting it big with skincare fans. We sent out a bunch of the latest moisturiser launches to our Beauty Edit panel to test and glowing feedback was given to Nivea Hydra Skin Effect Wake-Up Gel, £9.99 here.

“After applying this cream my skin felt instantly hydrated, cool and refreshed. It is really lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky, and creates a perfect base for makeup. I have dry, flaky, sensitive skin and I can definitely see improvement – skin now looks healthy, glowy and plumped, and I have received compliments from others,” said Beauty Edit tester Megha.

If you’re looking for an A-list option, Kora Organics Active Algae Lightweight Moisturizer, £51 here – a new launch in Miranda Kerr’s own beauty range – also scored top marks from our testers.
