Sister-in-law takes baby to a café wearing pyjamas

Mum is furious after sister-in-law takes her toddler to a café in pyjamas then ‘lies’ about it – before she’s slammed by critics as ‘unreasonable’

  • A mum was agitated after her sister-in-law took her child out wearing pyjamas
  • Hundreds on a parenting forum told the mum to ‘calm down’

A mum is furious that her sister-in-law ‘knowingly’ took her two-year-old to a café in her pyjamas while babysitting.

Posting on Mumsnet, the woman asked other parents for advice on how to handle the situation and whether or not she’s being ‘unreasonable’ for getting angry.

‘SIL (sister in law) knowingly took DD out in her PJs,’ the mum claims.

The child was wearing a coat at the time, but the mum says the pyjamas would’ve been visible and is convinced her sister-in-law is lying.

‘My daughter normally spends one day of the week with my SIL. The night before she had spent at my mum’s, who didn’t have any clothes for her to get her dressed in the morning, but knew my SIL had some as she checked with her beforehand,’ she explained.

After seeing an image her sister-in-law posted of her daughter, the mum confronted her.

‘I asked my SIL why she was still in PJs and she said she didn’t know she wasn’t dressed when she picked her up as she already had her coat on and they went out straight away,’ she said.

‘I asked my mum what happened during pick up. She said she apologised for not getting my daughter dressed in the morning, she didn’t have any spare clothes but knew my sister-in-law did so thought she would get my daughter ready before taking her out.’

She added how either her mum or sister-in-law is ‘lying’.

‘Besides the point, you can tell what a child is wearing underneath their coat. DD’s coat goes to just above her thighs. SIL would have been able to see her pj bottoms,’ she added.

The mum said she told her husband about the fiasco but he’s yet to discuss it with his sister.

Now the woman ensures her daughter is properly dressed before being babysat by her sister-in-law.

‘This happened a week ago, but I can’t get it off my mind. I don’t know if I should just let it go, but it just makes me so angry that my poor baby was taken out looking unkempt,’ the woman added.

Almost 500 people shared their opinions on the topic, with many bluntly saying the mum is ‘overreacting’.

‘You are being unreasonable and very precious, calm down,’ one wrote.

‘A baby doesn’t care. It’s a one off. Is it worth a row? I am assuming this childcare is helpful to you? if so I would not be rocking the boat,’ another added.

A third lashed out and wrote: ‘Your poor baby?? Why? Sounds like you have an awful lot of family help and support. Appreciate that or pay a professional.’

Another said: ‘This is not important.’
