Kate Middleton has been praised by fans and the Royal Family for her perfect poise and princess-like qualities.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who married Prince William in 2011, makes royal life look easy!

Her effortless fashion and down-to-earth personality have set Kate up for success as the future Queen consort to her husband.

But being Kate Middleton certainly has its perks, but the Duchess is also restricted by a long list of royal rules that she must follow.

While Meghan Markle struggled with the restrictions of The Firm, Kate Middleton has taken them in her stride.

From selfie bans to bedtime etiquette, here are the bizarre orders Kate must follow.

Pasta, shellfish and foie gras are forbidden

Royal guidelines state that the family should avoid risky foods in public.

Shellfish could give Kate food poisoning, and according to former palace chef Darren McGrady, carbs get the boot at dinnertime as the Queen is not a fan – wah!

He told The Telegraph, “No potatoes, rice or pasta for dinner.”

Foie Gras is a no-go, too. Apparently Prince Charles set the ban in 2008 due to animal welfare worries.

No touching!

Slinging a hand around the Duchess’ shoulder could land you (and her) in big trouble.

Casual touches by strangers are a big taboo to senior members of the Royal Family – a rule thought to date back centuries.

While the odd fan has accidentally broken this rule in the past, you’re pretty safe with a formal handshake…when Covid clears off!

She can’t go to bed before the Queen

Kate and her fellow royals mustn’t hit the hay before Her Majesty. Let’s hope her bedtime isn’t too late!

In his book The Royals in Australia, former private secretary to the Queen, Sir William Heseltine, said, “Nobody felt it right to go to bed before the Queen did.

“For Diana the long royal evenings were agony. She’d excuse herself and go to bed, which was thought to be rather bad form.”

The Queen may silence her!

Royal experts have claimed that Her Majesty has a subtle way to tell someone to stop talking.

Royal historian Hugo Vickers told People, “It would be very worrying if you were talking to the Queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other.”

The Queen’s staff are aware of her move – shifting her handbag from left arm to right – and will intervene if needed.

The move applies to Kate, too. She must never turn her back on the monarch either.

No selfies allowed

You won’t find a single selfie on Kate’s Instagram account. In fact, you won’t find her account at all!

Members of the royal family are banned from having personal social media accounts, and selfies are out of the question.

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter told Insider, “Royals would always rather have a personal interaction than have people clamouring for selfies.”

Kate’s not supposed to sign autographs, for fear of her signature being forged. And she must accept gifts graciously – how sweet!
