Arsenal stars rally around Xhaka after he apologies for red card but angry Piers Morgan brands him 'hot-headed d***head'

ARSENAL stars Rob Holding and Alexandre Lacazette have shown support to Granit Xhaka after his red card against Liverpool.

The midfielder, 29, was dismissed in the 24th minute of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg for a reckless waist-high tackle on Diogo Jota.

The Gunners held on to secure a valuable away draw but Xhaka felt he let down his side.

And on Instagram after the match he expressed his remorse, writing: "I want to apologise to everyone.

"I am so proud of my team and the spirit that they showed to keep a clean sheet tonight."

Rob Holding replied immediately, saying: "Together". The defender also posted two emojis – a heart and a muscle to show he was backing his team-mate.

Lacazette wrote similar: "We are together."

But that sentiment was not shared by some Arsenal fans who unleashed their fury towards Xhaka on social media.

Piers Morgan led the way, tweeting: "Every time I start to warm to Xhaka, he does something to remind me he is an unreliable hot-headed d***head.

"It’s taken years… and we’re talking lukewarm."

Another Gooner said: "Nah I’m done with Xhaka after that. Off you pop to Roma."

A third wrote: "Can’t get over what Xhaka has done. You know we don’t have midfielders left for upcoming games and you as an experienced player go on to do that. Guy has a brain of a 14-year-old. Idiot."

But one fan saw things a little differently. He said: "If Granit Xhaka doesn't get sent off we don't play so defensively, go toe to toe with Liverpool and possibly lose. Now it's all to play for at home. The man is a genius."
