Evander Holyfield bout scheduled for Saturday postponed until August

Evander Holyfield’s return to the boxing ring has been delayed again.

He is now scheduled to fight Aug. 14 as part of a Triller Fight Club boxing card against an opponent yet to be determined, a Triller executive told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Holyfield, 58, originally was scheduled to fight Kevin McBride, 48, in an eight-round exhibition match June 5 in Miami. Triller later moved the event to June 19 to avoid going head-to-head with the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul exhibition match that took place June 6 in Miami.

But Teofimo Lopez, the lightweight champion who was scheduled to fight in the main event, tested positive Tuesday for COVID-19, and the Triller event has been moved to Aug. 14.

The Triller executive denied a report that raised the possibility the Holyfield-McBride bout would be held Saturday and serve as the main event.

Representatives for Holyfield and Mike Tyson had scheduled an exhibition match between the two boxing rivals for May before negotiations fell through.
