MANCHESTER UNITED’S WAGE Bill has rocketed by nearly a quarter following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.
The sum has gone up to £354million a year a leap of 23.1per cent.
The figure came out as the club announced their first quarter results for this financial year which showed club revenues for the period up by 16 per cent to £126.5million.
The club’s Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward insisted that the club’s overriding priority was success on the pitch rather than on the balance sheet.
Woodward said: “While these financial results today demonstrate our resilience through the pandemic, our top priority is success on the pitch.
“The manager, players and everyone at the club are determined to achieve that objective.”
It is on the pitch, however, where the major problems lie with the club having lost six of their last 12 games.
They are out of the Carabao Cup, are still uncertain of progressing from their Champions League group and standing sixth in the Premier League nine points behind leaders Chelsea.

Back to back home defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool by 5-0 and Manchester City by 2-0 have left Ole Solskjaer’s job hanging by a thread.
Ronaldo re-joined United in the summer for a generous £12.8m move, but along came his MASSIVE wages with him.
The 36-year-old rakes in £480,000-a-week playing in the famous red and white shirt.
But he has been repaying his transfer fee with a number of important goals he has scored in both the Premier League and Champions League.
United also shelled out £73m for England international Jadon Sancho.
The tricky winger was hot property at German side Borussia Dortmund, but since coming to the Prem, he has struggled to find his feet.
Sancho is yet to score or register an assist across all competitions, and reports suggest he could be being trained to play a right wing-back.
The 21-year-old is third on United's highest earners list, picking up a weekly wage of £350,000.
Serial Champions League winner Raphael Varane made the switch to Old Trafford, and like Ronaldo, the fee was modest, but the wages leave a dent.
The World Cup winner earns £340,000-a-week, and has struggled to stay fit since joining the club.
The only big name to leave United was Dan James to Leeds for £25m.
James also took his £45,000-a-week wages with him, but it barely made a difference to United's wage bill.
United's weekly expenditure on players wages went up by £1.095m, including James' exit.
