TIMO WERNER says seeing Chelsea denied a 'miracle' comeback win over Real Madrid in the Champions League was hard to take.
When the Germany striker scored to put the Blues 3-0 up at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night they were on course for a remarkable comeback win in the thrilling quarter-final tie.
Madrid started the match with a 3-1 lead in the tie after last week's win at Stamford Bridge.
But goals from Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Werner turned the clash on its head and had defending champions Chelsea heading through with 15 minutes to go.
However, the LaLiga giants rallied brilliantly to progress with late strikes from Rodrygo and Karim Benzema.
Werner's goal was particularly poignant as he has been criticised for failing to live up to his prolific scoring reputation following his £53million arrival from RB Leipzig two years ago.

So the 26-year-old star was gutted to see the Blues' heroics count for nothing in the end.
He told the Chelsea website: "When I celebrated [my goal] I thought, 'This is it.'
"We could have scored before that to make it 3-0 but the officials didn’t give it to us, it is a point you can talk about, but when I scored I thought we are through with this.
"We nearly gave no chances to Madrid but in the end we have to say the goals they scored were very good."

Werner felt mistakes at key times of both legs of the tie proved the difference in the end, and added: "It was a problem because it put us in a very difficult situation.
"But also on the other side it was the thing that brings us for the second game to this level because we know that we have to step up and we have to give everything.
‘We had a brilliant game and we had ten minutes to go through to make a miracle come true – so it is very disappointing."
Werner's personal performance earned him a 6/10 mark from notoriously tight match raters L'Equipe.
However team-mates Kai Havertz and N'Golo Kante were only given 4/10.
In addition to individual mistakes, Mason Mount has come out to slam the handball rule that denied Marcos Alonso a goal during the tie.
Boss Thomas Tuchel has also voiced his anger over the incident.

In contrast, Real Madrid players were seen partying in their dressing room after making it through to the semi-final where they will face Man City or Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid.
The team have also been hailed as "immortal" by the Spanish press for making it through to the last four.
