A Place in the Sun guest was stunned when expert Ben Hillman mentioned an element missing in a house they viewed in Greece.

House hunters James and Alison were looking for a traditional village house in the rural area of Crete, the large island in the Mediterranean country.

With a maximum budget of £80,000, host Ben prepared five viewings around the capital city of Heraklion.

In the episode first shown in August, 2020, the real estate agent took the couple to see a "well under-budget" two-bed house in a hilltop village of Agios Vasileios.

As they stepped into the house through the front yard, Ben said: "Right, straight into your kitchen-come-breakfast room, living space, diner.

"What do you reckon?"

Alison took a quick browse around and replied: "Wow, it's lovely."

Ben continued: "Now as you look a bit closer to the kitchen, you will notice there aren't actually any facilities there for cooking."

Both Alison and James looked over the wooden cabinets and realised there is no stove on the kitchen top.

"I didn't notice that!" Alison laughed.

The presenter took a cheeky swipe at her and asked: "No, which begs the question, why didn't you notice that? Are you not big cooks?"

Alison explained that she thought the cooking tools were behind the fridge where she couldn't see from where she was standing.

Ben then moved on and brought the couple to see the rest of the house, which came with a a mezzanine bedroom and a fireplace in the living space downstairs.

He made a joke about the fireplace in the master bedroom: "This is amazing, look at the size of it. There's me going on about not having an oven in the kitchen.

"Have a barbecue in your bedroom!"

At the end of the viewing, Alison and James admitted they didn't rule out the property but it's not a contender for them because they felt a bit "daunting" for being the only Brits in the village.
