Corrie’s Michael Le Vell had another role in the soap before Kevin

LONG-term Coronation Street resident Kevin Webster has some more impending drama to push through.

It's nothing new for actor Michael Le Vell. But did you know he was initially introduced as another character in the ITV soap?

Drama is picking up a pace again for Weatherfield mechanic Kevin Webster as his wife Abi (played by Sally Carman) is not ready to give up her fight for baby Alfie.

But after taking a backseat and observing the nerve-wracking custody battle, Kevin will soon be taking a stand and assist Abi in her plans to leave the country.

Again, this is nothing new for soap legend Michael Le Vell who will be celebrating his 40th year on the show in 2024.

However, this could also be considered his 43rd anniversary as he first stepped into the cobbles in 1981 as another character, before settling down as Kevin Webster.

Corrie fans all have same complaint about Roy’s Rolls – but can you see why?

Michael recently reminded The Sun and other press that he first appeared in Coronation Street when he was 15 as troublesome paperboy Neil Grimshaw.

Diehard fans of the program may remember Neil caused quite a stir for The Kabin when he would throw newspapers instead of delivering them.

Neil eventually vanished after a very brief stint in the long-running drama, as Michael focused his attention on another show he had auditioned for.

Things took a turn for the better when he was cast as Kevin Webster for a total of 12 episodes as he quickly received a call to come back and the rest was history, much to Michael's surprise.

MINI STARS

EastEnders and Corrie stars look unrecognisable in 90s show – can you spot them?

"I've been Kevin for nearly as long as I have been Michael Le Vell",the 57-year-old said.

After so many years on ITV, could he imagine moving on to something new?

While that remains to be seen, Michael is open to follow in the footsteps of fellow stalwart William Roache by pursuing his acting career for another 30 years.

The Ken Barlow actor celebrated his 90th birthday on April 25, and has no intention of quitting the cobbles.

"You don’t have to retire when you’re 65", Michael went on, "you don’t get tired of acting", he continued.

One thing is certain for Michael – working on Coronation Street remains one of his life's biggest highlights.

"I love it, absolutely love it. I’ve actually been blessed with the actors I’ve been put with."

Nearly 40 years on, Kevin is embroiled in another dramatic storyline involving his on-screen wife Abi and Imran Habeeb.

"She keeps Kevin on his toes and stops him from getting bored", Michael said when asked whether his character regretted his romance with the fellow mechanic.

"He knows she’s got it in her to be a good mum."

What could Kevin do to assist Abi?

The couple parted ways after Kevin found out Abi had cheated on him.

When she surprisingly gave birth to Alfie, Kevin put two and two together and realised Imran was the father.

Since then, Corrie bosses have been hinting that the pair could fix their marriage as an initially fuming Kevin showed Abi some support as she fought for Alfie's custody.
