Lady Colin Campbell, best known as Lady C, has blasted the people who have been criticising King Charles III for airing his frustration while signing a visitors’ book in front of cameras. The new monarch could be heard saying “I can’t bear this b****y thing” as his fountain pen leaked over a document. Lady C jumped to the “dog tired” King’s defence when she was probed about the outburst on Tuesday’s instalment of Dan Wootton Tonight.

Dan, who did not want to show the video of the frustrated King to GB News viewers, said: “I just think people need to lay off this guy, he’s just lost his mum and he has been working non-stop.

“It was a moment of lapse and I actually think the criticism has been highly uncalled for.”

Lady C, who agreed with the New Zealander, felt the backlash the King’s received had been “preposterous”.

She fumed: “Most people criticising him have never used a fountain pen in their life.

“They don’t understand that a fountain pen that leaks, not only damages the document, but it dribbles ink all over you and possibly all over your clothes.”

The 73-year-old went on to say it’s an extremely irritating issue and she continued to defend the King’s frustrated response.

“Yes he is quick to anger but he is a very kind and loving, and conscientious person, and if he shows his annoyance that is simply the fact that he is honest, forthright and forthcoming,” she added.

“Why wouldn’t he be annoyed?” Lady C raged. “I would put it to you that practically anyone else in his shoes would have been annoyed.

“Besides the fact he is dog tired, I know this from people who are close to the situation, he is totally run out.

“Not only is he totally run out but he has to be making extremely important political moves and speeches.

“It was not easy to go to Belfast and strike the right note, but look at the way he waded into the crowds.”

She told viewers “we have much to praise him for and nothing to criticise him for”.

Lady C concluded: “The pen shouldn’t have been leaking, it’s as simple as that, but there is a segment of the population that loves to condemn and does it, quite frankly, ill-advisedly and sometimes plain plum stupidity.”

The moment of irritation happened in front of cameras at Hillsborough Castle, near Belfast.

The sovereign said in annoyance: “Oh god I hate this (pen)!”

“Oh look, it’s going everywhere,” Queen Consort Camilla said as the King wiped ink from his fingers.

“I can’t bear this b****y thing – every stinking time,” he said before he walked out of the room and left Camilla to sign the book.

The monarch has had a busy schedule since his mother Queen Elizabeth II died last Thursday in Balmoral Castle.

He returned to London on Friday and has been embarking on a tour of the UK and is now preparing for her funeral on Monday morning in Westminster Abbey.

Dan Wootton Tonight airs on weeknights at 9pm on GB News.
