ITV News presenter Lucrezia Millarini was left freestyling her news reports after technical difficulties affected the programme's autocue.

The nightly news show experienced a host of technical issues during Tuesday's 6pm slot, including a "system crash" that resulted in the wrong coverage being broadcast.

Viewers took to social media to work out what had happened after noticing ITV News London seemed a little strange when it first appeared on screens.

The show, which was due to air for 30 minutes before an hour of ITV Evening News, switched over to Meridien News almost immediately after it went to air.

One person wrote on Twitter: "What’s happened to the London news. Its switched to Meridien!"

While coverage was switched back to London minutes later, others were quick to notice that presenter Lucrezia was reading from sheets of paper instead of autocue.

One viewer said: "Hats off to @LucreziaNews this evening on @ITVNews. There’s a major fault which is causing technical difficulties, in which it fell off air but just about made it back on @ITV. No headlines or opening, only one fixed camera, and no autocue with reading off paper scripts."

Another commented: "@lucrezianews now THAT’S professionalism on tonight’s @itvnews!! Obvs the #autocue has gone down but she handled it as if nothing happened at all….and that’s the mark of a true pro! Not many could do that!"

A third said: "Give @lucrezianews an MBE for doing this without an autocue in these circumstances!!!"

It was reported by TV Zone that the technical difficulties were due to the ITN Studio in London experiencing a "system crash", which originated from ITN HQ.

They also said that it had been a "race against time" to get the programme on air for 6:30pm.

Other technical issues, such as problems with straplines, other graphics and multiple camera angles, were sorted.
