Sharon Osbourne emotional over ‘breathtaking’ tribute to husband Ozzy

Sharon Osbourne says Ozzy the Bull is ‘breathtaking’

Sharon Osbourne was overcome with emotion as she watched the touching tribute to her husband Ozzy Osbourne be revealed.

The mechanical bull, which was featured in the opening ceremony of last year’s Commonwealth Games, was originally destined to be scrapped before residents intervened.

A campaign was launched to save the bull with Birmingham locals deciding to honour Black Sabbath star Ozzy Osbourne who hails from the city.

At the grand unveiling, Sharon spoke to a BBC correspondent about the honour.

Holding a tissue, she said: “It’s breathtaking, this is mammoth, huge! It’s just brilliant isn’t it?”

Although Ozzy wasn’t able to be at the grand unveiling in person, Sharon revealed how much it means to him.

She added: “For Ozzy, to be born and bred here and having spent so much time in this station because he didn’t have a car so he was everywhere from New Street.

“He never, ever, ever thought that at this time in his life this would happen. I’m sorry he couldn’t be here and you’re stuck with me.

“Ozzy worked in a factory, his mum worked in a factory, his dad worked in a factory and this is what is what Birmingham is all about, its strength.”

The bull, which was rebuilt piece by piece, moves its head, mouth and tail along with roaring sound effects and eyes that follow you whilst glowing red.

Despite not being able to attend the unveiling, BBC Breakfast viewers saw a pre-recorded clip from the 74-year-old.

He said: “I can’t believe it, I’m absolutely blown away.

“Thank you for all your votes, I don’t know what to say anymore, I’m thrilled to bits, god bless you all and Birmingham forever.”

Along with Sharon attending the grand reveal, Ozzy’s sister Jean was also there as she confessed how thrilled she was at the bull.

She commented: “We’re so proud, it’s unbelievable, it really is.

“My brother, he can’t believe it and he’s so genuine, he’s amazed with it. To think such a big accolade being bestowed on the Osbourne family, it’s something to be proud of.”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
