Strictly’s Adam Peaty admits he has a lot to learn just weeks before show launch

Adam Peaty is set to bring his athletic prowess to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor next month.

The Olympic swimmer will be appearing in the BBC dancing competition when it returns in just two weeks time.

However, it looks like the sportmans has a lot a learn in little time.

Peaty told the PA News agency: "I don't know any dance moves yet and it's two weeks away. So it's going to be fun but we'll see."

He is one of 15 celebrities joining the BBC show.

When his place in Strictly was announced in early August, he said: "I'm really looking forward to doing something totally different and challenging myself away from the pool. I'm hoping my competitive nature is going to compensate for my dancing abilities!"

He also tweeted that he can't quite "believe" that he will be taking his legs "out of the pool and onto the dance floor".

Peaty will be joined by former rugby player Ugo Monye, Peep Show's Robert Webb, Dragons' Den's Sara Davies, and many more on the long-running dance show.

He is a breaststroke swimmer, having won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics and winning two gold medals at Tokyo 2020. To date, Peaty has won three gold Olympic medals and two silver medals.

Peaty has also been awarded an MBE for his services to swimming.

At the GQ Men of the Year Awards this week, Peaty was honoured with outstanding achievement of the year for his skills in Tokyo.

Looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Games, Peaty also praised his fellow Team GB athletes for their achievements this year.

He said: "It says outstanding achievement and I think Team GB, especially for this year, has shown just that. There are so many people who are going to go unrecognised, the team is just so full, it's got an amazing depth."

"Hopefully, over the next three years we can develop as a team together and hopefully push and win more medals in Paris," he continued.

Ahead of his debut on Strictly, Adam recently gave fans a sneak peek at some of the razzle dazzle they can expect from him on the dancefloor.

The athlete shared a photo of himself wearing a fringed sequinned dress, complete with sparkly gold straps.

‘Think I got the wrong outfit,’ he joked in the tweet, tagging Strictly as the picture showed him also wearing a black face mask behind the scenes.

Strictly Come Dancing will air its new series on September 18.
