Seal Team is heading towards the release of season five on Paramount Plus, but Michaela McManus will not be amongst the returning crew. After starring in the first season of the show, viewers have wondered why the star decided to walk away from the elite military series. Why did Michaela McManus leave the role of Alana Hayes?

What happened to Alana Hayes?

Alana Hayes was the estranged wife of Jason Hayes (played by David Boreanaz) and was the mother of their two children Emma (Kerri Medders) and Michael (Kelton DuMont).

In the episode titled The Worst of Conditions, she is tragically killed in a car accident, leaving Jason and their two children devastated.

Her death represented a major turning point for Jason and the family and was a prime motivator for him to make some important changes in his life.

Why did Michaela McManus leave SEAL Team?

Michaela McManus was an original cast member of SEAL Team and an integral part of season one.

However, the star didn’t last long after she announced her departure from the show following the season one finale.

The news shocked fans back in 2018 as her character of Alana Hayes looked set to be one of the show’s most important players moving forward.

But her departure from the show was due to nothing more than scheduling conflicts, one of the most common reasons for actors leaving projects.

Fans shared their reaction to McManus leaving SEAL Team on her Instagram after the star posted the trailer for season one back in 2018.

One fan wrote: “I am definitely not happy with this turn of events! You are amazing. I just can’t believe this.”

Another added: “I’m NOT happy with the writers of @sealteamcbs and I speak for MANY people. We LOVE you, Michaela. Writers Why would you write a storyline having her die??? Sooooo wrong.”

“Loved you on seal team. Been a fan since TVD. Will follow you to your new show,” commented a third.

Following the release of season one, McManus announced that she was joining a new series – The Village.

NBC released The Village back in 2019, one year after McManus left SEAL Team.

The star joined the show as a series regular, but unfortunately the role didn’t work out as planned.

NBC announced the cancellation of The Village after just one season, confirming the show’s end in May of 2019.

As the two shows were by two different networks and filmed in two completely different locations, McManus had no other choice but to leave SEAL Team.

The star was famously killed off from SEAL Team, sealing her fate in the series.

As a result, there is no hope for the actress to make a return for season five or beyond.

Despite The Village not working out for the star, she has gone on to find success in other roles and has made three different appearances on The Orville, Seth MacFarlane’s parody of, and love letter to Star Trek.

Most recently, McManus could be seen in the Netflix series You, where she appeared in an episode as Natalie.

You has been a hit for Netflix, with the show following an intensely obsessive young man, Joe Goldbery (Pennn Badgley), as he goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by.

Season three of You is set for release later this year, 2021, but there is no word on casting for McManus.

Seal Team is available to watch on CBS and Paramount Plus.
