Piers Morgan, 56, lashed out at Gavin Newsom, 54, branding the Californian Governor as the “world’s most woke political leader”. The former Good Morning Britain presenter couldn’t resist taking a dig at Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 40, who also reside in the US state.

It comes after the American politician passed a series of new bills at the weekend, that included banning gas-powered leaf blowers to requiring gender-neutral children sections in large stores.

Gavin’s new policies have been met with criticism from Piers, who also owns a home in Los Angeles.

The Life Stories suggested that making the use of gas-powered leaf blowers illegal would cause a “huge financial pain to millions of Californians”.

The outspoken journalist claimed that the Governor has cemented his reputation “as a self-righteous, sanctimonious, hypocritical humbug” in his latest column.

The small-screen star added that Gavin liked to “preach one thing but do another”.

It comes after the politician also mandated all children over the age of 12 to get a Covid vaccine shot but later admitted his own 12-year-old daughter remains unvaccinated.

Piers later likened Gavin to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex branding them “woke warriors”.

Writing his column for the MailOnline, he wrote: “Gavin Newsom’s only doing this to promote his woke credentials and, like those other famous California-based woke warriors Meghan and Harry, he loves to preach one thing but do another.”

The TV presenter didn’t detail a particular incident about Harry and Meghan despite making the claim.

Meanwhile, Piers recently took to Twitter and said he had no intention of hiring “annoying woke snowflakes” after being questioned on the micro-blogging site.

It comes after he put out an open call for people to apply for his new show but there is one catch.

The ex-GMB presenter urged “woke” individuals to forget to send in their applications.

Sharing the vacancies in view of his eight million followers, Piers wrote: “We’re hiring for my new show & an exciting new TV network.

“We only want the very best – so no annoying woke snowflakes need apply, thanks.”

Twitter user Paul Cook quizzed: “I wonder what Piers thinks is ‘Woke?'”

Piers claimed that the word “woke” had been “hijacked” by those who believe in cancel culture.

The journalist suggested that his new show will take on the “society-wrecking wastrels”.

Piers replied: “I’m ‘woke’ using the original interpretation of being awake to social and racial injustice.

“Sadly, the word has now been hijacked by illiberal fascists to mean the shaming & cancellation of anyone & anything they don’t like.”

He added: “My show will take on these society-wrecking wastrels.”
