Dieter Brummer dead at 45 – Home and Away actor who starred alongside Melissa George found dead at his Sydney home

HOME and Away star Dieter Brummer has died at the age of 45, according to reports.

The TV actor, who starred alongside Melissa George, was found dead at home in Glenhaven, near Sydney on Saturday.



Cops found the actor after a police welfare check.

New South Wales Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious, News.com.au reports.

A report is being prepared for the coroner's office.

Family friend Steve Comey confirmed the news of his death.

He posted: "Heartbreaking news. We have lost a free spirit. Vale Dieter Brummer. Way too young.

“Way too soon. My sincerest, deepest condolences to his beautiful sister Karlene and all of Dieter's family & friends. Keep flying young fella.”

Brummer starred in Home and Away between 1992 and 1996.

The actor, who was born in 1976, was just a teen when he got the role of bad boy Shane.

The actor appeared in the show alongside actress Melissa George, who played Angel Brooks.

Despite their chemistry on-screen, it's reported that the pair didn't get on in real life.

A Channel 7 spokesperson said: “Home and Away and Channel 7 are deeply saddened to hear of Dieter Brummer’s passing.

“Dieter was a much-loved Home and Away cast member and celebrated by Australian and international audiences for his award-winning portrayal of Shane Parrish.

"We send our sincere condolences to Dieter’s family and friends during this very difficult time."

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford tweeted: "Very sad to hear of the death of former TV heart-throb & Logie winner Dieter Brummer at 45 years old. Home & Away was a massive hit for him in the 90s.

"There were other credits too but when you hit such dizzying heights at a very young age life & career after can be problematic."

And, music writer Danny Waterson said: "RIP Dieter Brummer (Home & Away). Sad news today of his passing, was a really decent, hard-working pleasant guy. Always sweet and kind to me and all those he worked with. Vale Dieter."

He won two Logie Awards in 1995 and 1996 for his role on the Australian soap.

Brummer was written out of Home and Away when his character died of blood poisoning in 1996.

The actor also appeared in Neighbours in 2011 and 2012 where he played the character Troy Miller.

Brummer also starred in the hospital drama Medivac and appeared in the Underbelly series.

It's reported that the 45-year-old also worked as a window cleaner.

Home and Away was first aired in 1988 and more than 7,500 episodes have been produced.
