Prince Harry slammed for ‘acting like fame-hungry Love Island contestant’

A royal expert told presenter Jeremy Vine he believes Prince Harry should be "stripped of his titles", having turned into a spotlight-hogging celebrity akin to a Love Island contestant.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced regular scrutiny since their decision to step back as senior royals and move to California last year, with tensions reaching an all-time high when the couple opted to speak to Oprah Winfrey about their trials and tribulations in a televised interview in March.

During a discussion on Channel 5’s The Jeremy Vine Show Tuesday, that questioned what should come next for Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, especially when Prince Charles takes the crown, royal expert Graham was blunt.

He said: "I would like to see Harry [stripped of Prince and Duke of Sussex titles].

"He’s behaving like a contestant off of Love Island at the moment."

Insisting his opinion came from concern for the 36-year-old dad-of-one’s welfare, the guest continued: "It’s not good for him and it’s certainly not good for the Royal Family.

"I see a man who is deeply unhappy."

Following the Queen’s decision to strip the couple’s patronages and royal titles in March, in a move that was a particular surprise when Harry’s military titles were taken away from him, many have questioned whether the prince remains in limbo.

By still keeping his title as the Duke of Sussex, but not operating as a working royal and choosing to ignore advice from advisers in the Firm, he continues to draw much criticism for allegedly having his cake and eating it too.

Graham went on to say: "I think he’s made a very big mistake in what he’s done moving away to America and he should reconsider where he’s at and if we are going to revamp the Royal Family, let’s start by removing a few of these titles."

The conversation initially arose after Prince Harry attended an LA concert on Monday and joined a group of celebrities battling to encourage Americans to get the coronavirus vaccine.

Promptly placing Harry among the likes of superstar singers Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez, the event served to bring up further questions about the royal’s increasing departure from his place within the family – particularly after the frosty reception he received at Prince Philip’s funeral last month.

Journalist Dominique Samuels agreed, claiming that Harry and Meghan seemed to be wanted to be celebs, as she chimed in on the show: "He’s on stage, he’s got his name in the background, there’s lots of music.

"He doesn’t really come across as a royal anymore. He kind of comes across like a celebrity."

The guest went on to say she believes the issue with Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down is that despite claiming they want "privacy", they continue to seek out the limelight.

"What it kind of looks like is they wanted to move to America to be celebrities, not working royals," Dominique added.

Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this year that the Queen had chosen to re-distribute Harry’s former military titles and patronages among other members of the working family.

"While we are saddened by their decision the Duke and Duchess remain much-loved members of the family," the statement said at the time.
